Building a new compact display board to fit inside my army case (WIP)

So there's an upcoming tournament in my local area (Hal-Con) and someone in our gaming group brought up display boards. Well I've always wanted a decent one but I play Grey Knights so it has always been a big deal to me that I am able to fit everything in one case. This usually even means templates and books. For this tournament (1500 points) I've got my usual GK allied with some SMs but they still fit in the case. Note they are just shoved in right now for the sake of the picture.

So the plan was to build something that fits in the top cover of the case while leaving enough room for foam to protect the minis.
This started with cutting some thin wood boards. I missed this picture but the aim was a board that fits in the case and two leaves that swing out when deployed to give me enough room for all the models.
I then cut some foam and arranged it with some spare plastic bases before I applied the basing.

I have some tiles and rubble on the individual model bases so I start with some pva glue here after I hack it up with a knife. This is then sanded down before applying the plaster/sand.

I then applied my plaster/sand basing which is a mix of fine sand (from my daughters sandbox), poly filler, brown paint, pva glue, and water. I adjusted the ratio as I went along to add variety to the texture but the ratios are roughly:
5 Sand
3 Filler
3 Glue
3 Paint
1 Water
I slather this on like the textured paint from GW but it's so much cheaper that I use it less sparingly.
This got exciting for me so I starting priming it before I took a picture but I stopped part through.

Images and more to follow.
