Kill Team Games

So, a few questions here.

I have been playing 40k for a while but have never gotten into Kill Teams. I guess I must have never really been paying attention whenever it was mentioned.

Anyway, is there a way to get the hardcopy Kill Team rules without purchasing the box with Tac Marines and Fire Warriors? I see that you can get it as a PDF, but if I am going to pay money for it, I would rather have an actual book. I need neither set of models, but I find the potential for the smaller games very intriguing.

My other question: those of you that have played kill team - what are your opinions of it? Do the 40k rules transition into this smaller group well? How long does a normal game take? It is easier or faster to learn than standard 40k?

Flollowing for curiosity, I don't own the rules but I'm interested in seeing the how this turns out.

I myself am interested in how this pans out as I see this a a good cheap way to get on the skirmish side of 40k .

Kill Team Games

You have to have a working understanding of the 40k rules. It plays much faster. Games lasting 30-60 minutes.

Each member of the kill team operates and deploys by itself. So think 40k with one guy per squad.

This is what the older version looked like.

You can get specialties for the members that customizes your guys. You can build a Rambo dude or whatever.

It is 40k with the following general limitations.

Usually 200pts of dudes
No armor value over AV33 total
No Flyers
Nothing with more than 3 Wounds or 2+ armor.
Only chose from the Elite, Troops and Fast Attack slots

Kill Team Games

Having played the previous iteration of Kill Team, I'd say that for the most part it's pretty fun and much faster paced due to the size. Assuming everyone is prepared ahead of time ( I find usually it's deciding what models have what specialist rules that take up the most time) the games fly by pretty quick, maybe an hour to an hour and a half at most depending on the size of the respective armies. The cool thing about it is due to effectively having an army of MSU units, it's actually more efficient to run more naked guys than it is generally speaking than to run units with big weapons with high rates of fire, like scatter lasers, since it's overkill on a single target model. I'm not sure if they'll keep it, but unless that model has the Split Fire specialist rule, you can't split your shots and in Kill Team, even with marines, you want to buff up your numbers so you can avoid taking early break test which can really make or break your army in the later stages of the game. Since I play Orks, this is a huge deal for me and I take lots of Grots to keep my numbers high so I don't have to deal with having to take break tests my mediocre Ld7 for a long time with 40+ bodies.
