[1850] - Space Marines - WS Gladius & Deathwatch, Competitive Play

Hello all!

Please let me know what you think of my list, it is meant for very competitive play with friends, outside tournaments, and invisibility/death stars are not a thing.
It is meant for a TAC list.

Demi company x2:
Khan, bike
Chaplain, hunter's eye

Command squad (5) bikes, apothecary, grav-gun x4 , drop pod (khan goes here)

Tac squad (5) plasmagun, combi-plasma, razorback with assault cannon
Tac squad (5) plasmagun, combi-plasma, razorback with assault cannon
Tac squad (5) plasmagun, combi-plasma, razorback with assault cannon
Tac squad (5) meltagun, combi-melta, razorback with assault cannon
Tac squad (5) meltagun, combi-melta, razorback with assault cannon
Tac squad (5) meltagun, combi-melta, drop pod (inquisitor goes here)

Attack bike, MM
Attack bike, MM

Devastator squad (5) grav-cannon x2, rhino (chaplain goes here)
Devastator squad (5) grav-cannon x2, rhino

10th company task force:
Scout squad (5), sniper rifles
Scout squad (5)
Scout squad (5)

Deathwatch Aquila killteam:
Veterans (5) frag cannon x2, combi-melta x3, drop pod
Terminator (1) heavy flamer

Inquisition:
Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor inferno pistol x2, servo-skulls x3

So, it is fairly standard WS gladius: all scout ahead, gravs do their thing, scouts keep home objectives, servo-skulls prevent enemy scout etc.
The Command squad gets an empty pod so as to have three total and drop 2 first turn.

The real question is the deathwatch, and here i want the most help, as it is still new stuff.
In theory, i spend 275 pts to have a versatile squad that can either target a key vehicle (so i have 2 melta pods 1st turn) or target key units that rely on cover (pathfinders, venomthropes etc)
Between mission tactics and re-roll "1" to wound or penetrate, they seem to be able to get the job done.

I am happy about the deathwatch, it gives me the sternguard abilities of the 1st company task force without having to get 3 squads and they get some extra durability from the termie.
So what do you think? Is it worth the pts and is it best to run it as aquila, or change the kill team type and wargear?

Thanks!

I don't really think you're getting much out of one formation. The real synergy of that army, at least for me, has been layering on squads that make use of the very specific Mission Tactics + formation re-rolls...plus the Frag Cannons, the Corvus Blackstar, and their relics.

The Acquilla Killteam is nice if you are just including one squad like this for "fun", but I find the frag cannons are best used to nuke troops... deep in cover, or jinking, etc. 3 frag cannons often wipe just about any squad I find holding an objecive. I think the "double-tap lascannon" profile is tempting, but your'e way over-paying for what a melta gun can/should be doing. Also, I actually think their strength lies in a "beta strike" approach...

That being said, I don't think you gain anything from taking one expensive unit, used for "alpha strike" in this list. If you did want to include an effective force, I would take two squads, each with their own drop pod (so that one could be the "beta strike" squad) and kit them out identically:

Furor Killteam (hunting troops -- so scouts on objectives or in open topped transports, pathfinders, jinking bikes/jetbikes, or anything else lying in cover on an objective)
Veterans (5) - frag cannon x2, shotguns and bolters x3 (you can, and always should take both of these for versatility), drop pod
Terminator (1) - heavy flamer

Even better, if you had the points (but I don't think you can find the points for it) take a Corvus Blackstar as their dedicated transport (or in both cases, both of their dedicated transports, but that's expensive) so that you can reliably use them for troop clearing after troops are more likely "on the board" and/or exposed.
