[200] - Tyranids - need help here...

So I got the new Epub version which means I can only view it on my phone, and it sucks to read (apparently they're no longer supporting mobi for codex/supplements)... but I've got a Kill Team game coming up. I couldn't find any rules about Synapse, does anyone have a page number?

The list... still brainstorming:
Sadly I don't have a Lictor. So for Elites that pretty much leaves the Venomthrope, Hive Guard or Zoanthrope - a little expensive for 1 model but could be worse...

For Troops I've got tons of Genestealers, Broodlord, Termagants and Hormagants; also Warriors but being 90points per unit will limit whatever else I can take.

So Far it's this:

Genestealer Brood
-- Broodlord (rending claws)
-- 7 Genestealers (rending claws)
Termagant Brood
-- 10 Termagants (fleshborer)

198 points Total
- But Termagants are subject to instinctive behavior, and while I love the Broodlord's "The Horror" / pinning power it's much less useful against single model units, this list has an obvious Leader though in the Broodlord.

OR this:

Genestealer Brood
-- 5 Genestealers (rending claws)
Termagant Brood
-- 10 Termagants (fleshborer)
Warrior Brood
-- 3 Warriors (all with Scything Talons and Devourer)

200 points Total
- Same model count but less Genestealers and no Broodlord, however there is a chance the Warriors can keep the gants from going instinctive. No 'characters' to be the leader however.

Thoughts?

Second list is by far the better.

as you mention, warriors keep the gants in check and horror is less useful on single models

I totally agree - however, I've discovered (from another thread) that Hormogants are actually really good despite Synapse.

Since they're "single" models in Kill Team they never feed on each other and on a 6 they get rage.

So now I'm thinking:
Genestealer Brood
-- Broodlord (rending claws & scything talons)
-- 6 Genestealers (rending claws)
Termagant Brood
-- 10 Hormagants

198 points Total

Thoughts? The question now is... I could instead take only 5 Genestealers and add 3 more Hormagants; which is worth more in this type of game?

They both move fast and have 3 attacks on the charge but the GS will likely hit on 3's and can Rend, the HG likely hit on 4's no rend, 5+ save versus 6+ save and the GS have really high Initiative... but it'll be 3 bodies to 1. I do love GS though... hmm.

One of the best thing about hormas is how fast they close the gap, due to the +3" run, which you never get to use if out of synapse. Similarly, once your force breaks, don't expect them to stick around.

Personally, I don't really get the warrior hate. They're awful in standard 40k sure, but aren't terrible here. However, due to being quite pricey, I think you need to either go full elite (lots of warriors or warriors with hive guard or something) or horde out with tons of gaunts.

For genes, I'm unfortunately not convinced on the broodlord. He's a CC beast sure, but in a 5-7 turn game he's only going to be able to do a limited amount of damage, and is only t5, 3w 4+. Things like autocannon and other heavy weapons make short work of him. I feel like with nids, we generally will want to go full MSU (I'm talking 20 or so gaunts) or take a lot of big stuff and hope to overwhelm the things that can kill it. If you like genes, I'd try just plain 14 of em and see how that goes. If you have trouble with low numbers, can start to swap some out for hormas!

Hmm I think you guys make a good point regarding the Broodlord. Although I wonder how I'll distinguish my leader and specialists otherwise, I also feel like the Broodlord is such a cool character.

My Broodlord is nicknamed "the Mountain", after he was challenged by Prince Yriel and proceeded to crush his skull with much taunting.

Anyway yeah good point about the hormagaunts too, I wasn't considering the loss to run, ugh.
