				<title>First Armies on Parade.</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ I've been meaning to do Armies on Parade for a number of years but never got around to it...or in most cases just wouldn't get off my lazy butt to do it. Finally after my girlfriend kept pushing me to do it and the manager at the local <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span> store ambushing me as I made my weekly visit to the store, I've started. They weren't the only ones over the years to have told me that I should do it. I think part of it is because the Sisters of Battle are kind of a rare sight, though even that's not true in our area. There's like 4 or 5 of us that I know. It's been a lot of work converting the models to the new textured bases that they came out with. Still not looking forward to fixing all the paint chipping that was unavoidable. <br /> <br /> So far I've mostly been focusing on the display board. A lot has been accomplished so far, but it's still a work in progress. Had a lot of ideas to start out with and then, as usual, they change and evolve. While the display tile itself still has a lot of work...And I haven't even started painting the buildings (cries), most of the assembling is complete and I can start to experiment with how to arrange the display.<br /> <br /> <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b130/akula2ssn/CameraZOOM-20160925121541260_zpswx5lhuth.jpg" border="0" /><br /> Probably the most fun I've had so far was experimenting with creating rust. I decided that I wanted one of the blocks on the tile to look like it was very old and had been exposed to the elements for so long that it completely rusted over.<br /> <br /> <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b130/akula2ssn/CameraZOOM-20160925173838096_zpsa8gmo1nx.jpg" border="0" /><br /> Once I was happy with the doors I expanded the rust. The next step will be carefully adding in the parts of where there might be some exposed metal from weathering of the rust layer.<br /> <br /> <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b130/akula2ssn/CameraZOOM-20160925172619402_zpsoz7qvxw5.jpg" border="0" /><br /> The other challenge right now is trying to figure out the layout. <br /> <br /> <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b130/akula2ssn/CameraZOOM-20160925180254081_zpseqisukms.jpg" border="0" /><br /> Here's another variation using a another larger structure. I may not have the gun turrets because they do feel a little out of place and I haven't figured out how to put them on in a way that seems natural. The other issue I'm having is trying to find a balance between having structures on the board but not overcrowding the display in such a way that the army itself is kind of overshadowed by the terrain.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> ]]></description>

I will be redoing the blocks to the sides of the cathedral looking structure to be covered in grass. Saves me the trouble of having to re-base the penitent engine and a few other figures.]]></description>

Once it's dried I'll be applying some glue and a layer of dirt like what you find for model train displays and then eventually the grass on top of that. <br /> <br /> <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b130/akula2ssn/CameraZOOM-20160927214804029_zpsgd0s1eyg.jpg" border="0" /><br /> <br /> Starting to base coat the little cathedral. 				<title>Re:First Armies on Parade.</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Been working a little bit here and there on various parts of the display. Decided to add a second exorcist. The immolator is starting to come together. Finished creating the grass area where the Imperial Knight is standing. Spent a bit of time painting the chapel. At first I was very hesitant about the light gray that I had chosen to go with, partially because I wasn't sure if it would sit well with the rest of the scenery, and I don't normally work with lighter shades. So far it seems to work, though it's far from done. The copper or bronze works was something else that I was uncertain about with the lighter gray. Again it seems to work, but I currently can't decide if I want to give it a polished look, or go with the copper oxide look. Kind of leaning toward the latter as it would be consistent with other copper or bronze works on the board. <br /> <br /> I still have the rest of the army that I'm also working on repairing the paint and sealing again. Keeping them separate from what's currently on the board to keep track of what's complete. Time permitting, I might try putting an incomplete vehicle inside the manufactorum. I took the immolator turret from an exorcist kit and replaced the space marine pilot with the sister of battle. She sits a bit further back than the space marine pilot, but for the most part it works.]]></description>
