http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/14.page JForum - http://www.jforum.net 40k after a 10 year absence and recently posted a 1000pts Guard list here, but several users pointed out I would have mobility problems if I ran mainly foot guard with few chimeras. But instead of swapping my blobs for chimera vets, I've now become rather tempted to start an army of my favourite Space Marine chapter, Raven Guard. The Talon Strike Force looks really fun and really strong with Vanguard Vets landing and charging on demand, so I thought I might start out making a 1000pt list of one of those then add Guard as I go up in points to give me more ranged weaponry. It requires a lot of units, I've just about managed to get it to 1000pts, but I don't have as much wargear and special weapons as I'd like. Ah well, I'll just start with this to get the hang of 7th ed Raven Guard and add on all the bells and whistles when I go up in points.

Plan: Tac Squads and Devastators take out enemy TEQs and vehicles, Vanguards Deep Strike in and shred MEQs if it's safe to do so, but stay the hell away from TEQs (choosing when you come in seems really useful), Murderwings goes with the Assault Squad for ablative wounds and shreds any blobs with help from scouts if needed.

When I go up in points I'll probably add:

A 4th Lascannon and a couple more bolter marines to the Devastators

5 more marines, a heavy weapon and a combi-weapon to each Tac Squad

A second Vanguard squad, and maybe a third

More Scouts, or maybe Scout Bikers

An allied Guard detachment to provide Leman Russes and tarpit blobs.

So I have 3 questions I want to ask you:
1. Is the Talon Strike Force viable at 1000pts, or should I consider either going straight to a higher points value or not using it?
2. Are there any changes you'd make within the first 1000pts?
