[200] - Tau - Kill Team

Hey All,

First post on the forum! Mercy...please!

Just got back into Warhammer 40k after some hiatus and managed to actually drag some friends into it as well! Just played Kill Team for the first time last weekend to get back in the swing of things and enjoyed both the relative quickness of the game and the size of the teams. Anyways, I would like to ask for your input on my Kill Team and if this other list I created may be better.

So...

Here was the list I used last weekend (I kept it simple so I wouldn't confuse my friend or myself) I played against his guard, the sneaky man brought 20 conscripts and a veteran squad. Needless to say, I was worried. But I managed to do fairly well.

x4 Stealth Battlesuits 125pts
w/x1 Fusion Blaster
Leader
Preferred Enemy
Split Fire
FNP

x8 Firewarriors 72pts
197 points total

The first game went a bit too much in my favor, I scored 8 victory points to his...2pt. After a bit of tinkering to his list, we did a second game which went much better! It was a draw at 5 - 5 with some hilarity in the process. Needless to say, I am proud to say I managed to sway someone into liking 40k.

What I had in mind for my next list is something like this: My question though, would this be too cheesy?

8x Strike Team: 72pts-	Preferred Enemy

Crisis Battlesuit: 42pts -	Twin-linked Missile Pods-	Leader
Crisis Battlesuit: 52pts -	Plasma Rifle-	Missile Pod-	Split Fire
Crisis Battlesuit: 32pts-	2x Flamer-	Feel No Pain
198 Points Total

Any and all input is much welcomed!

I feel that how cheesy that list is will depend heavily on board set up: how dense is terrain? if those jet pack moves are going to get you out of cover to slaughter stuff then into cover/out of range reliably, then those suits are pure cheddar.

if terrain is more modest; sure crisis suits are kinda scary, but nothing he shouldn't be able to deal with?

just my two-pence,
GamerGuy

I'm using our KT games as a way to test some of these builds and see what works for me. Thanks for the input, I like these changes.

GamerGuy wrote:I feel that how cheesy that list is will depend heavily on board set up: how dense is terrain? if those jet pack moves are going to get you out of cover to slaughter stuff then into cover/out of range reliably, then those suits are pure cheddar.

if terrain is more modest; sure crisis suits are kinda scary, but nothing he shouldn't be able to deal with?

just my two-pence,
GamerGuy

Thanks for the input. As far as terrain goes, I would say moderate. I would agree that if it was particularly dense terrain I would take a look at my list, as I want to encourage further gameplay with my friend.

I'll be playing again this upcoming Veteran's Day weekend so I am pretty excited to try this list out.

I don't think that KT is the best way to "Test builds" since KT and regular 40K are quite different games.
For example: No one take Burst cannons on Crisis suits in regular 40K since you'll have plenty str5 elsewhere and really need more Fusion or Missile pods.
In KT, however, there is far less AV (maybe like 1 transport) and nothing will be higher that AV12, so spamming Str5 is much more appealing

But thank you for the input, I totally agree, KT is nothing like big 40k. But, I like it as a good starting point for people who are just getting into 40k though. New players can get an idea of the rules and building a KT is far cheaper and more forgiving for the new player than say a 2000pt army.

Re:[200] - Tau - Kill Team

Just an update on my Tau Kill Team.

Played against Imperial Guard and Space Marines this weekend and found that my battlesuits needed to be more well rounded for these two very different armies.

Against the IG my Deathrain/Missile+Burst/and Flamers worked fairly well...when I managed to hit with them. The FW's provided well rounded support and mostly were there to take objectives while my suits JSJ'd my buddies IG.

Against SM though it was a much tougher fight. The first game was a draw, my FW couldn't hold an objective to save their lives (Literally!) and I pulled a draw in the end due to "Linebreaker". My Flamer suit was just about useless in this match, I think he managed to get...1 SM kill (in close combat no less!) My missile/burst cannon had a tough time getting through SM armor saves. Overall, it was okay.
2nd Game against SM ended differently, but that was due to the mission than to my ability to kill. I lost....2 suits and 2 FW to FAILED leadership tests (once my opponent had whittled down my numbers). I still managed a win with a 8 VP to his 2 VP. So I decided I may change this list to something a bit better suited against both types (the extremely hoardy and the extremely robust)

How would this list be as an "all comers"?
Crisis w/ TL Plasma
Crisis w/ TL Deathrain
Crisis w/ TL Burst Cannon + Flamer

Plus 8 FW? Total Points: 198
