[2000] - Dark Eldar - Double Realspace Raiders

K so this is a weird list and i'm not used to doing a double list but after getting trounced by tau this is possibly the only viable list i see that may be able to handle 3-4 vehicles over armor 11. So here goes and i'm unsure about this list it's very odd to say the least and has an insane amount of vehicles and shots.

Double Realspace Raiders Detachment

Detachment 1

Warlord

Archon
-archangel of pain
-webway portal
-haywire
=125 pts

Warriors x5
-champ.
-phantasm
*venom
-splinter cannon
125 pts

Warriors x5
-champ.
-phantasm
*venom
-splinter cannon
=125 pts

Ravager
-night shields
=125 pts

Ravager
-night shields
=125 pts

Ravager
-night shields
=125 pts

Scourge x5 (Warlord goes here to DS)
-heat lance x4
=120 pts

Scourge x5 (2nd HQ goes here to DS)
-heat lance x4
=120 pts

Detachment 2

Archon
-blaster
-armor of misery
-haywire
-phantasm
-webway gate
=145 pts

Warriors x5
-champ.
-phantasm
*venom
-splinter cannon
125 pts

Warriors x5
-champ.
-phantasm
*venom
-splinter cannon
=125 pts

Ravager
-night shields
=125 pts

Ravager
-night shields
=125 pts

Ravager
-night shields
=125 pts

Scourge x5
-haywire x4
=120 pts

Scourge x5
-haywire x4
=120 pts

Total=2000 pts

-------------

So as i said wonky list. I hope i have enough anti tank but if i have to take out certain things i will. I know this should be ok vs the tau player and looking around at enemies i think this list could handle many other opponents as well in various transports. The sheer number of disintegrators and a decent amount of poisoned shots should see to that. Perhaps i'm boxing myself in too much and i'm not sure how fun this list would be to play with.

Btw i did count on average vs a stormsurge i'd do about 8 unsaved wounds (counting FnP). Not sure if they'd get inv. saves but if so then it may be harder. Phantasm is for hordes of infantry though the massed fire may be enough (there is a traitor guard player that is quite tough to beat and has a baneblade in his list). Anyway i'm not entirely sure how this list will do but my AT power feels a bit weak for 2k points. I may add haywire grenades to each warrior squad just in case so they have something to do once all the infantry is murdered en masse.

This list is more a hard counter to what the tau player uses but i think it has enough stuff to handle other armies. While i don't fear massed infantry if they have enough cover the phantasm and various guns should kill them. Monstrous creatures get murdered by waves of ravager fire and AT is in the scourge which may be a problem. I may drop some things but i'll see.

[2000] - Dark Eldar - Double Realspace Raiders

A few things stand out:

- Realspace raiders with a lot of empty fast attack slots
- Two archons with WWP and nothing interesting to deep strike
- Two expensive HQs
- No Objective Secure
- Lots of Ld-based weaponry

For 2000 points, you could have a double CAD, thus objective secured, add fusion blasters to your warrior champions, have more warriors and more CAD venoms thus giving you a serious edge in Objectives (maelstrom and EW) over your current list.

The ravagers are really not that great in damage output, you might want to try other AT options (blasterborn maybe), more glass cannon but anyway you're dead if you don't do a solid alpha/beta strike.

Don't forget you're fighting an uphill battle, you will need one of the strongest Dark Eldar lists just to play against a mild Tau army.

Imagine how much stronger the following list would be (and a lot more fun to play too.. ravagers aren't fun):

HQ (10pts) +

········Court of the Archon (10pts) [Lhameans (10pts)]

+ Troops (600pts) +

········Kabalite Warriors (120pts) [4x Kabalite Warrior (32pts)]
············Kabalite Warrior with special weapon (23pts) [Blaster (15pts)]
············Venom (65pts) [Splinter Cannon (10pts)]
x5

+ Fast Attack (420pts) +

········Scourges (140pts) [Scourge (16pts)]
············Scourge with Special / Heavy weapon (31pts) [Blaster (15pts)]
············Scourge with Special / Heavy weapon (31pts) [Blaster (15pts)]
············Scourge with Special / Heavy weapon (31pts) [Blaster (15pts)]
············Scourge with Special / Heavy weapon (31pts) [Blaster (15pts)]

x3

++ Combined Arms Detachment (Dark Eldar: Codex (2014) v30) (970pts) ++

+ HQ (10pts) +

········Court of the Archon (10pts) [Lhameans (10pts)]

+ Troops (600pts) +

········Kabalite Warriors (120pts) [4x Kabalite Warrior (32pts)]
············Kabalite Warrior with special weapon (23pts) [Blaster (15pts)]
············Venom (65pts) [Splinter Cannon (10pts)]
x5

+ Fast Attack (360pts) +

········Scourges (120pts) [Scourge (16pts)]
············Scourge with Special / Heavy weapon (26pts) [Haywire blaster (10pts)]
············Scourge with Special / Heavy weapon (26pts) [Haywire blaster (10pts)]
············Scourge with Special / Heavy weapon (26pts) [Haywire blaster (10pts)]
············Scourge with Special / Heavy weapon (26pts) [Haywire blaster (10pts)]
x3

Created with BattleScribe (http://www.battlescribe.net)

[2000] - Dark Eldar - Double Realspace Raiders

So the venom spam build then? Is it that good that it's a must have?

Perhaps i should tell you his build.

He has 2 stormsurge, 2 ghostkeel (with 2-3 drones a piece), 2 units of 3 stealth suits each (6 total), shadowsun and a riptide in 1750 pts. That's what i fought. The poisoned shots would just be shrugged off of gargantuan. The haywire would do jack as they did in the game i fought (since no vehicles). Not only that but without some sort of way to get through his cover he had a 2+ cover save on every stealth suit and ghostkeel so yeah but no. Only choices are either phantasm/fear bomb, flame template attacks which kinda suck for DE offensively or melee which i had and he shredded most before it got there or i failed most charges (and that's lately been my go to for anti cover using incubi and such). Oh and his riptide had the FnP injector system so that was a thing. Jeez where's the army tactics it's just 3-5 big models and that's it really. May as well be squad tactics in gundam than a game of army battles.

As far as his list goes it's almost entirely formations and people have accused him of cheating. Not sure if true but he is a power gamer. Pretty sad when you use a power list with tau and act like it's tactics vs a generally worse army. I even placed my night shielded ravagers in forests and area terrain to get the 3+ cover save and still fire. That surprisingly helped a lot to survive enemy fire and still get good shots off.

That said i suppose i should make a list to handle more types of opponents than just the top tier cheese lists from top tier factions.

I don't think the venom spam is a good build.
I don't even think there's any good build in Dark Eldar at all.
If you think you can fight 2 stormsurge, 2 ghostkeel and a riptide with Dark Eldar... errr. good luck I guess

If you could rate power levels from one to 10, I'd rate his list probably 8, it has major flaws as a 100% competitive list.
I don't think you can go above a 5 with Dark Eldar.

You could *maybe* tailor a list that can take his list down, it would have to revolve around massive AP2 unavoidable hits, i.e. units which are guaranteed their first hits.
But then your list wouldn't be able to deal with other decent armies.

However, you talked about an Imperial Guard army, and it's (without crazy alliance schemes) on a comparable power level with the Dark Eldar if you want.

You should continue playing against the Tau guy, but then make sure to throw in a balance element, like a solid points handicap (at least +250 for the DE) and / or list tailoring in your favor.

There's nothing wrong with power gaming and it's quite possible that your Tau player has no idea how crappy other armies can be.

So just tell him it's too hard a match up for you and you're willing to have a fun game with him if he's willing to give you a better shot at winning.

His army is mostly just the models i told you about. The rookie gamer was doing ok because it was newest space marines but when i tried giving him crap for playing a noob with that list he said it was all he had.

Keep in mind most people don't play the guy because he's a power gamer, supposedly cheats according to some (says he has different loadouts than his list) and has a smugness at times even though he plays tau. The only opponents that ever handle him are the traitor guard with baneblade, necrons (decurion i think), space wolves (which he almost always wins against) and eldar with eldar stupidity. I'm not sure if vanilla marines have given him a fight yet.

I'd also like to say that even if you DS your guys he has that stupid interceptor and maybe skyfire or whatever else he's got. Those stupid suit sub-systems are OP as ****.
