The best unit in the Codex is the Hive Tyrant (wings and Devourers to fly around dropping masses of S6 shooting wherever it's needed; it may not be fun depending on how much anti-flyer tech your opponent has), staples I see frequently are Zoanthropes and Venomthropes. Monster builds seem more popular than gaunt-spam builds.

Avoid taking Pyrovores and avoid dumping too many points into your Warriors and you should be in reasonable shape for causal games.

For one, they are pretty awesome models but aside from that, you want her to keep playing, I assume and you won't want less than three of them.

I might also suggest the purchase of a Tyrannocyte. I have seen them used in all kinds of creative ways.

I think that among the denizens you might select, Mucolid Spores are quite handy as inexpensive and useful troops.

Have fun.

Venomthropes and Malanthropes, despite the amount of ignore cover these days, are a must have to help your gibblies get cover saves.

Plus the Malanthrope model is amazing!
