[1850] - CD - Big Flying Daemons

So I really like big flying daemons - the fact that Nurgle DP's are so shooting resistant makes me really like them!

I'm pretty sure the BT and DPs will do what they need to do (against infantry, anyways) what I'm worried about it what I should use for crowd control. I will be ordering all the models for (whatever finalized version of) this list in the next day or two.

Right off the bat, my concerns are tanks, as only the thirster or a DP with the right GR result can really do much, and getting swarmed a giant tarpit.

I'd like to make the list as competitive as possible while staying with the idea of big flying scary demons.... I've penned alternates with plague drones w/ icons and a bunch of nurglings to handle a mob of enemies, but I think what's below is probably better (and to be honest I'm not a big fan of the plague drone models).

Any input is appreciated, even if its, "There's no saving this list"

@HQ [ 2 ]

Great Unclean One (190pt.) Mastery level 1;

Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage (335pt.) Warp-forged armour; Armour of Scorn; Lesser Rewards; Greater Rewards; Great axe of Khorne;

@Elites [ 2 ]

3x - Flamers of Tzeentch (69pt.)
> 3x - Flamer of Tzeentch (23pt.); Flames of Tzeentch;

3x - Flamers of Tzeentch (69pt.)
> 3x - Flamer of Tzeentch (23pt.); Flames of Tzeentch;

@Troops [ 4 ]

3x - Nurglings (45pt.)
> 3x - Nurglings (15pt.);

3x - Nurglings (45pt.)
> 3x - Nurglings (15pt.);

3x - Nurglings (45pt.)
> 3x - Nurglings (15pt.);

3x - Nurglings (45pt.)
> 3x - Nurglings (15pt.);

@Fast attack [ 2 ]

8x - Flesh Hounds of Khorne (128pt.)
> 8x - Flesh Hound (16pt.); Collar of Khorne;

8x - Flesh Hounds of Khorne (128pt.)
> 8x - Flesh Hound (16pt.); Collar of Khorne;

@Heavy support [ 3 ]

Daemon Prince (250pt.) Daemon of Nurgle; Daemonic flight; Warp-forged armour; Lesser Rewards; Greater Rewards;

Daemon Prince (250pt.) Daemon of Nurgle; Daemonic flight; Warp-forged armour; Lesser Rewards; Greater Rewards;

Daemon Prince (250pt.) Daemon of Nurgle; Daemonic flight; Warp-forged armour; Lesser Rewards; Greater Rewards;

GUO is way too much of a tax just to unlock heavy support Nurgle Princes and you already bought enough Nurglings for 2 CADs. Split into 2, drop the flamers and use all points to but max 3 Mastery Levels and 2x Greater, 1x Lesser for each Nurgle Prince. Even then it's not *that* competitive. Best way to take a Flying Circus these days is to look into the Infernal Tetrad formation. It consists of 4 Daemon Princes, one of each alignment, and they get bonuses depending on how many are alive and on the field. Taking a D Thirster these days pretty much means you HAVE to take Be'Lakor for guaranteed invisibility since he can't buff himself. Too many lists these days can gun down/smack down a Prince or greater daemon these days before they get to swing without some serious durability buffing.

Grimoire is a no go in my book unless you've got Fateweaver. Even then, a 3++ alone isn't going to save you're Khorne Prince. He'll get drowned in High S High AP shooting all the same.

The levels of defense for a Flying Circus that you should be considering are as such:

-Invisibility + a decent save
-2++ Rerollable (available to Tzeentch Princes with impossible robe + Cursed Earth)
- 2+ Jink + 4+ FNP (think Nurgle Princes with Endurance or the 4+ FNP greater reward)
- Iron Arm + save buffing

Basically you need to be either extremely hard to hit via Invis along with a decent save, or you need to be layering saves as much as possible between rerolls on saves and FNP.
I absolutely get what you're saying. Nurgle DP's with ML3 Biomancy are 80% to get one of the two powers they need; what would you think about a list running strictly 3 of those (so no weak link) and a horde of other demons behind them?

Essentially use the big guys to draw S8+ fire (protecting multi wound T4 daemons) and force the opponent to choose...

The next question would be what the right supporting daemons to run are.

I think I've got my friendly 'play a game' list written, which won't involve a ton of psychic powers, but it'd be easy to crank that list into a (somewhat competitive) pain in the ass if called for.

Tough enough, scout to put on in the pressure, and can tie up shooty stuff so you're big guys get in safe.

The only problem with spamming Nurgle Princes is that if there's something one of them can't handle well (knights, certain hordes, tough tarpit etc) you won't really have much else to deal with it
