How can I achieve this effect?

I've been searching with my mate (who is going to start Necrons) for color schemes away from the regular silver.

After looking through blogs and stuff on the internet, I came across this:

It seems like the model itself is Abaddon Black with Eshin Grey or a light color Grey maybe?

But how can I achieve the red/orange glowing effect on the weapons and details?

Also, I thought the Thokt dynasty for Necrons seems pretty solid as well.

I'm guessing it'll be similar to the technique above but what colors are used for this guy:

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Necron-Anrakyr-the-Traveller

The blue-ish glow effects!

Thanks for any help guys!

How can I achieve this effect?

I don't know exactly how that was done, but I achieved a similar affect on a grav gun by going with:

1. Base coat with Mephiston Red
2. Touch with Evil Sunz scarlet
3. Highlight with Auric Armour Gold

It looks very similar. When I get home perhaps I can post. it's not as well done as this, but still gets the point across.

Secondly, the edge highlighting there actually is very well done. That's so hard for me! wow. Looks like a combination of Eshin Grey and perhaps Dawnstone. But I am no expert on this scheme.

If i were doing this to my army i'd prime in Chaos Black spray and skip abaddon black altogether. And of course my right hand is captain twitchy so i'd probably dry brush on the dawnstone for edging, perhaps touching up with abaddon black & highlighting with as bright a grey as i could find.

I'd try Dawnstone and Fenrisian Grey fine highlights over black to achieve a similar effect on the armour.

As for the Tesla Carbine, that effect looks identical to the effect I painted onto a Forgefiend's Ectoplasma Cannons for a friend, as follows:

Mephiston Red base
Agrax Earthshade shade
Troll Slayer Orange layer, focused towards the flatter areas of the energy ridges
Flash Gitz Yellow, even more focused than before

That should yield an identical effect for you

G.A

It just looks like red highlighted orange highlighted yellow.

Which red/orange/yellow you use probably doesn't make a huge difference, mephiston red has good coverage so it's what I'd normally go with. Other than that I usually avoid GW paints so I'd probably use Vallejo's Orange Fire and then whatever yellow I had on hand.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Would I need to use a wash of some color on the red areas?

And the black is just Abaddon Black right?

Sorry if it seems obvious but I'm new to the hobby and not too sure with all the colors.

You could use a wash on the red areas but it doesn't look like they have in that picture. If I were going to use a wash I'd probably go with a black wash and then reapply the Mephiston, or just start by basecoating it a darker colour rather than washing it down.

Who knows what black it is, it just looks like a satin black, could be one of a dozen blacks from a dozen paint manufacturers or it could even just be sprayed on from a rattle can. Just pick whatever black suits your fancy I guess, or maybe use a very dark grey instead (something like a 50/50 mix of eshin grey and black).

How can I achieve this effect?

This is a typical glow effect that you can do on almost any part of any model. I love the way the person did it and it would be really easy to replicate.

Games workshop does tutorials on glow effects and painting gems. Both are useful to you in this scenario and you might want to take a look into them.

The basics are as follows:
(using the red glow)
Use a base of Mephiston red
Shade with Reikland fleshshade (My personal red shade favorite)
Apply a line of Jokaero orange (could also go wildrider red) making sure you leave some room on either side to show the mephiston red still
Add another line of Yriel yellow (or your preferred yellow) making sure to leave portions of both the orange and red showing

TA DA! glow effect accomplished.

If you wish to further this you can add glow effects with super thinned down paints. Again, check out the youtube channel for games workshop on glow effects.
