Platoon standards are bad, a 5 man command squad will be dead before it gets to add to combat res.

For the price of your 1 heavy flamer you could add 3 regular flamers to that basic platoon,

I personally prefer meltas in my scion unit so they have a chance against tanks if needed, also double the toughness of space marines.

As for the platoon command squad either use them for orders or they work great as a special weapons squad as 4 out 5 models can have special weapons. Flamers are always useful.
