I've seen green done well on the internet - it's different enough from the blue to be noticeable (the problem 9th has) without being glaring (the problem 3rd has).
Black, I can't seem to find many examples of, and of those they don't look terribly inspiring, but YMMV.

As for reserve companies, this is something I've put thought into (despite not playing Ultra's) - if you want three devastator squads in your army (for example), then one (technically) needs to be from another company. This could be an easy way to pick out individual squads (i.e. you won't get your 4th company tacs mixed up with your 9th company devs) but limits you in how much you can mix-and-match equipment / loadouts between games. Technically you're limiting yourself in that way as soon as you put squad numbers on the pads, but you can get away with that easier than shoulder trims. There are ways round it (magnets, several 'spare' marines waiting in the wings, etc.). It's also worth thinking about for units of Assault Marines - since you can potentially have both units of AM and bikes and speeders in the same list, and they're all technically assault marines, doing the bikes and speeders in a different company from the regular AMs is a way to avoid "doubling up".]]> http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/preList/711510/9086364.page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/preList/711510/9086364.page GMT
Do you really need to be cannon though? I like it when people alter the chapter slightly.
