Typhus + Nurgle - how good can it be?

I have Nurgle Start Collecting box (10 plaguebearers, 3 nurgling bases, 3 drones, Herald), a Chaos Rhino and some CSM/plague marines. I just realized I could add to this a Plague Zombie Cultist Horde with Typhus, and it would look fantastic.

But the question is, would it be playable? How strong can it get? What would I need to add (or remove)? How many zombies would I need?

I don't play tournaments, and the environment is reasonably competitive ("making the best of a low-tier army" style). The point values go from 1000 to 2000.

Zombies are a board control army. Most nurgle lists are like that actually, high defence, but low offense. Also, due to slow and purposeful, you're not getting anywhere near the enemy fast.

I usually run zombies in a wave, and have fast units of Spawn, or winged Daemon princes do the heavy lifting. Keep the zombie units small, so they can actually be destroyed, and possibly outflank to a better position.

If youre using nurgle daemons, they can make good backfield campers, or depending on the opponent, deepstrike into enemy lines as a distraction (though I think darmonettes are better for that, but not your theme....). Also you get the better Prince with s baleword.

Typhus + Nurgle - how good can it be?

Typhus gets a breath of fresh air thanks in part to the new Nurgle powers (specifically, the spell that restores d3 wounds).

As such, you can run him in a CAD (with Daemon allies, so you won't get burned by the Warpstorm table) with your current units. I recommend adding at least 20 zombies (either in one squad, or broken into two), in addition to some anti-armor (try a couple of Obliterators on for size). At least 3 Chaos Spawn will also provide some speed for your army (you can try attaching Typhus to them in order to 'slingshot' him quickly into combat).

If you want to run the Lost and the Damned formation from Traitor's Hate (aka the outflanking to which Nightlord1987 alludes), you will need at least 40 zombies (minimum is four squads), as well as a Dark Apostle model. However, I think that a CAD will suit you just fine for the short term, and you can always expand on your core in a variety of ways.
