I'm completely new to 40k (but not to wargaming), and I'm looking around for some good casual starter lists (between 500 and 1850 points) for factions that are a bit out of the mainstream.

I've been able to find lists for Tau, Imperial Guard, Dark Eldar, and Necrons, but I can't find anything that's up-to-date for the Sisters of Battle. The only list I've found for them is this one, and as far as I can tell, that's at least four years out of date (since it references a unit I can't find in their codex.) Any help/guidance you all could give me on this matter would be appreciated.

You say casual, so that should literally be whatever you want that makes you happy...both modeling/painting and on the tabletop.

I can tell you as an erstwhile Sisters player that they are in no way competitive with their current stats and codex. However, their strengths are their pretty decent transports and access to lots of melta and flame weapons. Their best unit is probably Dominions...they are your typical sisters but they get Scout and can take 4 meltas in a 5 woman squad. This makes them pretty threatening both on turn 1 or via Outflank. But as I said...their statline, specifically T3, makes them all but useless against most other armies. You truly have to love them to play them.

They rumored to be getting new plastic models and new codex in the transition from 7e to 8e...but I wouldn't hold your breath. I also really wouldn't waste your money on metal minis or conversions in the meantime. Right... and, at least for me, the best way to learn a new set of rules is to use them. Spending hours memorizing stats doesn't help me, without the practical knowledge to apply them.

Dmonions are excellent as not only do tehy scout in a MM Immolator but also have ignore cover Act fo Faith. Retrtibutors can be fun with Rending AOF and the new Canonness could work with them or Exorcists which are also good.

If the new Celestine is good and there are some formations in the new book - especially for Serpahim, it will give a much needed boost to the Sororitas forces.

You won't see as many Repentia, Penitent Engines, or Celestians; either because their AoFs aren't as useful or they compete for slots. Special characters are a bit up in the air right now... Jacobus is okay in a blob, Celestine in transition, so who knows with her, and there's a new named Canoness that I haven't played yet.
