Novice basing question

Hey all, so Im back at it after a nice 10 year break.
Anyways, painted up a couple fire warriors till I found how I want to do my army. Going with light tan color armour, with a nice brighter blue for the "soft" parts and armour accents. My idea is this Tau Sept is from an ocean world, that reassembles the Caribbean.
Now my basing question, I originally thought of light color sand, like a beach, with some bases even having bits of ocean coming into them.
Now, that would go with their "camouflage". But, would it blend in to much...or should I base them some other style,(the Sept got called to help another on another world, or something) with a bit different colors, to make the models "pop" a bit more.

Now I am no painting expert by any means. Just wanting to make my models look as good as I can get them.

Thanks for any input!

I'll try to post a picture of what I'm going with here in a minute...maybe that will help a bit.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Now, this bases is just spray primered with army painter color that I am using to primer them with. And my phone takes horrible pics...and horrible lighting. But you get the idea.

Novice basing question

Beaches aren't always bare.
Put some driftwood, seaweed, shells, etc on the bases for variety. A rock or two for the larger bases.

Isn't the idea of camouflage that you blend in? Having the base the same colour makes that work.
Maybe put a couple of contrasting items on the model, like a kneepad and a shoulderpad, or something.

Get your photos on the Gallery. People might add comments when browsing, and might not have seen this thread.

Re:Novice basing question

Skinnereal has it right. I like the idea of basing them from their home planet. I do this myself. Just add some more textures to the base beyond the basic sand. Balsa wood is cheap, can easily be shaved with a hobby knife into broken board like elements then paint as wood and drybrush greys to make it appear to be driftwood. Longer static grass can be coastal grasses, you could even greenstuff shells or something. I also often shape Balsa wood into rocks sticking out of the ground. Just paint it as coral with some lichen (flock) running on it.
Not the greatest example sadly but this treeman's base is balsa wood.
http://edwardmystcreations.weebly.com/sculpts-wood-elf-treant.html
And these rough rider conversions show a balasa wood base converted to a stone/rock base before painting.
http://edwardmystcreations.weebly.com/imperial-guard-sisters-of-steel-roughriders.html
In any case, looking good, keep some updates coming if you don't mind!

Novice basing question

Thanks guys. Guess I just needed to hear it from someone else too. Good idea with driftwood, coastal grass and such. I have a few coolines ideas I'm going to try with green stuff and surf crashing into the beach too. I'll try and update my gallery (do we have profile gallery's on here? have to check) as I go along.

Novice basing question

If you want to make water, I have had really good luck using standard jars of thick acrylic paint like you use on a canvas to make flowing channels and waves of lava. I use a fair amount of red and then dab on bits of yellow and mix them using a toothpick. Just tapping the surface makes great smaller waves and droplets (think the Great Wave). Using a nice deep turquoise with white would look pretty sweet.
