Colorado you'll be able to find 2" thickness, either labeled Pink Panther (pink) or DOW (blue). I'm not sure what your definition of cost-effective is, but generally people use insulation foam (pink or blue - Home Depot or Lowes) generally available in 1"-2" thicknesses depending on where you live.
