Quick question I've almost finished painting a metal model for a friend, however I'm concerned about chipping with it. I have a pot of 'ardcoat which I could apply but I know it leaves it glossy.

I know from applying transfers that using lahmian medium after it's all dried will dull the shine. As I'm talking about protecting the model here will this technique still work? Or will it potentially weaken the 'ardcoat's protection?

Testors do a good one called dullcote but that can be tricky to get in the UK. But Montana sell reasonably priced Matt Spray varnish.

Windsor and Newton sell good soluble Acrylic Gloss and Matt Varnish in their standard paint lines (Galleria IIRC) if you want to go the brush on route. This is available at almost any Art & Crafts store like Hobbycraft.

Winsor and Newton Galeria 75ml Matt Acrylic Varnish

They have another one called 'artists' varnish but I'm not sure what the difference is.
