Ork Freebooters Color Scheme

Hey guys so I have decided to go with an Ork Freebooter theme for my army. The question is picking out my color scheme. What are some "freebooter" color schemes? I was thinking black and gold initially but I am open to ideas.

Ork Freebooters Color Scheme

Anything goes as it's flashy! You could paint every model or unit in different colours and patterns. I recommend painting most armour parts in gold, to add some blink! At least if you are going for classic jolly ork pirates theme.

Ork Freebooters Color Scheme

I was thinking gold as well for metallic parts. Any suggestions on ways to not make it "shiny gold" I would imagine it would be a burnished gold on an ork.

Re:Ork Freebooters Color Scheme

My mental image of Freebootas always has them wearing vertical striped white and black trousers for some reason...but Freebootas are a good excuse to invent a colour scheme of your own!

For some Orkspiration I would recommend looking at some of the artwork from the Rogue Trader books (Waargh Da Orks and the like).
The colour schemes in those books are much more colourful than the recent Ork stuff which is perfect for Freebootas.

There is also a great picture of a Ork Freeboota Nob in the 3rd Edition codex if you fancy something a little less gaudy.

Otherwise I recommend having a look through any old White Dwarfs you have as Orks often pop up in the Eavy metal showcase. Looking
at the Ork models from computer games like Dawn of War II and Warhammer: Mark of Chaos should help out too.

Re:Ork Freebooters Color Scheme

i would use an irregular scheme, with 3 or 4 colour combinations, because good bosses "recruit" many gangs. For give them more "army look" i would add some identifier, like a tattoo or a common piece of clothes/armor with same symbol or colour, (distinctive of da boss). Because they arrr Freeboters, they would have some pirate hat, (nobz maybe) and some stripes in pants or jackets

Re:Ork Freebooters Color Scheme

Freebooterz don't really have a official scheme since they vary so differently from fleet to fleet.

My best advice is to focus your efforts on the trousers; I'm doing all of mine with pinstriped white and blue. It gives the army a unifying element so you can mess around with every other Ork scheme on their armour and clothing to make personalised units.

If you're doing pinstripes, get some precision masking tape (2mm in diameter) to help make the job a lot easier.

A WIP of mine so you get the idea:

Spoiler:

If you want gold to be present, I'd recommend doing gold teeth - it can be quite difficult to matt down gold on flat surfaces like armour plates, and teeth are really simple to do and add to the flashy style of Freebooterz. If you are fixed on doing gold though, try multiple layers of Reikland Fleshade over Retributor Armour, with an Ironbreaker highlight to finish.

Hope this gave you some ideas

G.A

Re:Ork Freebooters Color Scheme

I would do a variety with a unifiying item, as mentioned.

Definitely a pirate hat! if you're not into sculpting, Kromlech makes some really cool piratey heads, as well, for orks.

Love the gold tooth idea that's perfect you should definitely use that lol

Also, for not quite as bright gold, I prefer to use Vallejo Old Gold. Use a sienna wash on it to give it a deeper tone as well.
