Primed Tanks in Black - How best to change to White Primer?

About 2 years ago my heart was set on a black legion CSM army. I started to prime my tanks/heldrake black, before falling out of the hobby and leaving them unloved. I've since came back and aspire to create a death guard army as my friend gifted me 30+ plague marines and typhus.

Upon reading the traitor legion book - the horus heresy paint scheme is my goal for my miniatures and tanks. This scheme realllly calls for a white base coat, so I'm wondering what to do with my black primed vehicles. Can I apply a white coat over it? I've used simple green on other models to strip the paint, but not sure if it would be needed with just the prime coat on.

Picture for reference - Also bonus pic of my plague marines ready for wash with their rhinos in back. These are the green rhino's plagues/rusted up in first pic

http://gdurl.com/P06S

http://gdurl.com/Rm3u

It's probably best to strip them, but if you're like me and hate stripping stuff and the black isn't too thick, just grab a can of white spray primer and spray it white. The trick is to not try and get coverage in 1 go otherwise you'll make the paint too thick, expect it to take 3 or 4 if not more coats, apply a thin coat, let it dry reasonably well, apply another coat.

If you try and get too much coverage in 1 coat you'll end up clogging the details.

I just used GW's old skull white when I had to respray some models from black to white and it worked fine for me, of course GW don't sell their old skill white anymore.
