Getting rid of dust on varnished models safely

Hi,

I recently got back into painting my 40k army (Eldar) and have almost finished now but upon inspecting my models they have seemed to gather a bit of dust. They have been kept inside a citadel hard case and are all relatively safe. The problem I have is that the foam has slightly stuck to the models as they were varnished in 'ardcoat and I am having trouble removing it. There is a mixture of dust and pieces of foam which is really annoying and I am not sure what to do. Should I spray with an air compressor or use an old brush? I really don't want to harm them.

Thanks for any help that you guys can give!

Fraser

That might be a foam problem, actually. Some types of foam deteriorate and bits will crumble off and stick to models.
If its all varnished, you really shouldnt have to worry about hurting the paint while cleaning, unless you did something wacky like oil washes over the varnish. Go at it gently with a damp lens cloth like you use to polish eyeglasses.

You probably want a can of air duster. It's what I use to keep my minis cleaned off. I also have a big soft makeup brush that works well. As long as the foam isn't sticky on the models, a good brush and spray should handle it. If you have an airbrush, that works well too, for dusting them. If they are sticky, you could try giving them a light washing, since they're varnished, and I assume it's long since cured. I'd hit the trouble spots with a q-tip lightly.
