WAAC Chaos player (mostly because it was futile). But since the improvement GW bestowed Chaos with, I thought I could give a try to be competitve (or at the very least semi-competitve).
(Can't believe I actually waited since my introduction to the game in 2010 to even consider this an option... Such sadness...).
Anyway, here's a brief summary of what I have (I'm clearly going to forget some):

Chaos Terminator Lord/ Sorcerer
Chaos Lord on Juggernaut
Daemon Prince
Terminators x10 (yes, I know, it's a lot).
Possessed x5 (Yeah, I have those).
Chaos Space Marines squad (10) x3 (Yes, you read me right, I have 30 csm models).
Rhino x2
Bikers x9 (3 are actually modeled to be cyclopia cabal sorcerers on bike).
Land Raider (Yes, I have one of those. I'm a hobbyist first, a player second, and an avid fan of Sartre pre-Marxism).
Chaos Vindicator x2 (Yes, I had two of those before the vehicule squadron rule).

Great Unclean One (proxy, though).
Bloodcrushers x6 (one that can be used as an Herald).
Plaguebearers x10
Bloodletters x20
Flesh Hound x20 (proxy)


So, as you can see, there's no real theme with my collection, and thus I'm wondering in which direction (ahem... legion) go.

No on the palanquin unless you just really like the idea. Sorcerers are usually best unmarked and on bikes when possible.

With your models i would run the Sons of Lorgar detachment. Ob Sec on more units, crusader on everything, and some boon manipulation. I don't know if that is best in practice but it seems better to me.

Also in the interest of full disclosure, Death Guard is you more competitive legion choice. Black legion decurion with:
Terminator annihilation force with all the termies
Dedicated raider transport
Black legion warband with all your troops (some as Havocs), possessed, a kitted up marine for a lord, and a few of the bikes
Cyclopia cabal

A black legion allied detachment with plaguebearers as counts-as cultists for troops, the jugger lord, and a squadron of vindicators

A khorne detachment with the crushers, letters, hounds and prince.

Which path to follow ? hq and 1 squad of 8 bloodletters. put the star in the hounds and go ham! if you have points to spare ally in a cad or anything else that can get you obsec. use the sroc. to summon your daemons and buff the hound star. This is the competitve build and i strongly reccomend you dont use it in friendly games unless you dont want to have friends have fun! take a cy cabal and run them with the hounds rocking power maces and biomancy/telepathy spam

then take a nurgle combine arms using your marines as marked nurgle marines in rhinos with a nugle prince

use the termies as termicide, 3x combi melta deep striking
chuck the vindis in

Well, it allows you to have flesh hounds with move throught cover.

Which path to follow ? csm. I say, a good compliment to that is world eater butcherhorde. Bring a warband for objective secured and demon bring with berserker glaive. That's potentially 11 strength 9 attacks on the charge. Plus feel no pain and it will not die! Your lord on juggernaut can run with gorefather, another heavy duty khorne relic. Run him with 3 spawn for meatshields.

So, what to do with you demons? I dunno, but I think word Bearers is not competitive. Summoning demons will get your sorcerers killed to perils really fast. I do like the tome relic from word Bearers which gives a sorcerer a pretty good chance of rolling posession(summon GUO). But in my opinion, if you want demons,bring a demon allied detachment or combined arms. Summoning demons as a mortal is really hard and unfortunately word Bearers didn't good enough rules for it. OR you can bring a demon prince with psyker from word Bearers and he could do the summoning. But I'd rather bring the glaive personally.

Bloodcrusher suck too now btw. But I love the models so maybe they would be worth summoning.

IMO, forget the demons, use them just for allied stuff whenever you have room for it. Go all out dog cabal and world Eaters warband and steam roll your enemy with speed and martial prowess. Besides that you actually have loads of options, particularly because Traitor legions is such a fab book.
One thing no one has mentioned which might be fun with your marines is to run a CAD or warband of Alpha Legion.
Run the marines in min infiltrating squads and cover all of the objectives in obsec goodness.
