Painting Thousand Sons

Hello all,

I am very close to finally painting my Thousand Sons army. I found a nice looking Metallic Blue from Ammo by Mig that I will be using.

For those of you that have been recently painting Thousand Sons I am torn on the method.

I had planned on airbrushing the metallic blue and then going in and hand brushing the gold and other parts. I know the blue is airbrush thin and thought it would go on better with airbrush than by hand.

I saw Duncan's method on Warhammer TV where he spray based 1K Sons with Retributor Armor then shaded them before blocking in the blue due to so much gold detail.

I thought this was a great idea until I saw a can of Retributor Armor was $27 (US)!

I know I can airbrush a gold on that is a cheaper option and I have seen some bat reps on You Tube that show hints that a lot of people have used Duncan's method (unfinished gold models or bases).

I wanted to see if anyone thinks painting all the gold trim was a pain in the ... or if using Duncans's method is more practical.

Thoughts?

Painting Thousand Sons

I am currently repainting my 3rd edition Thousand Sons army (painted back then when washes weren't a thing yet), and I spray them blue, then drybrush a lighter blue and do the gold parts by hand. I use a mix of Army Painter and Coat d'Arms paints and use Army Painter Colour Primers; they rock big time imho.

I never been into airbrushing and stuff, liking the oldskool method of spray and tidying up by hand.

I think both techniques will work so maybe do a batch the Duncan way, and do another batch the oldskool way and see what has your preference?

Good luck!

I thought about that actually.

Airbrush a model in Blue another in Gold, block in the rest and see which i prefer. I am just impatient and want to get started, lol.

I am leaning toward the gold spray base coat...

Thanks for sharing your method!!
