New Raven Guard Player: Tactical Advice Needed.

Just finished reading the Sons of Corax and Shrike, and needless to say I am a huge fan of the Raven Guard. Because of this, it was the final nail in the coffin to motivate me to field and army of these guys, with the goal to to utilize FW models so I can play in both 30k and 40k games. With that being said, what are people's thoughts on Raven Guard armies and what has been successful tactic and unit wise? Basically a noob with them so all help is appreciated.

New Raven Guard Player: Tactical Advice Needed.

I have an admittedly rather casual Raven Guard army and I can tell you they're quite solid to play with, but if you're after a properly fluffy army, you will lack heavy units such as Terminators, and if you're up against an army equipped to deal with your Power Armour, you'll need to do some clever tricks to make it work. But I suppose that's the Coraxian way.

My advice would be to take a solid core force along the lines of the Pinion Battle Demi-company (even if you don't want the formation). Scout Squads in Land Speeder Storms are a personal favourite, as are simple, mechanised Tactical squads with a generalist loadout.

I take Land Speeders for my Heavy Weapons, rather than Devastators or Centurions, and I like Predators for their aesthetic and range.

The linchpin of my army, however is almost always a big, 10-man Assault Squad accompanied by a Chaplain. Being Fearless is invaluable, as is the ability to pump out a lot of attacks. They can't challenge some of the more optimised assault units you find nowadays, but nor should they.

Regarding playstyle, by far the most important thing to remember is that while other Chapters may question our honour, there is certainly no honour in defeat. You will win by stacking the odds in your favour in every engagement, sending your strong units against your enemy's weaker ones and bending your battle-line to avoid his strength. You're not in the business of head-on assaults.

Spinyguy has the gist of it. We're not meant to be in a strung out brawl like the wolves or blood angels. Movement, reserves, and control is the name of the game. Scouts and assaults are the mainstay, least that's what I'm noticing with the various formations rg has. I also am using shrike in a lighting claw vanguard vets squad. Should be killy. I like the idea of a chaplain and assault marines, but what are thoughts on a libby?
