Slow Grow campaign help?

Hey dakka!

My new to gaming group wants to start a slow grow campaign goeing, so with all of use being pretty new to warhammer what are some tips if you have ever played in one.
Please share your experiances on what you liked and didn't that way we can try and have it run smooth and fun for every one and if any one decides to run one one in the future it will be a good resource for them.

Some questions I have is how do you keep it to a relatively even playing ground for every one?
If some one has lost all there games do they usually get a bonus to help them atleast win or become bit more of a threate?
We want to have a map in the campaign of a planet with bonuses for certain areas held and guides for maps or ideas for bonuses?
What is the best way to go about building your army so that no one gets super strong right off the bat?

Would appreciate the help fellow gamers, thanks for the input!

Yes I do have some idea's

You might wnt to look at how mini wargaming dealt with these issues in the past. They have done a large amount of campaigns in all sorts of formats including some slow grow campaigns.

There are some quite interesting GW campaign books that supply bonuses. Planetary Empires might be what you are looking for. but there are others that are great

Slow Grow campaign help?

Even saying "small points, battle-forged, no cheese" you can end up with some bizarre and unpleasant matchups. Depending on the armies you'll probably want to just hard-ban formations (alternate detachments are more reasonable given the number of armies that don't work without them), and I'd suggest constraining unit types somewhat (start with no superheavies, flyers, or MCs, start feeding them in slowly as the campaign goes on).

The Heresy books have some campaign ideas, there was also a 4e-era slow-grow campaign that among other things restricted how many points you could spend on an individual vehicle and then raised the limit as you captured territory. Going to see if I can't dig that up.
