Is it possible to zenithal highlight without an airbrush?

I live in a small apartment with little ventilation in a place that is VERY humid. I have to do all my priming with brush on primer. Recently I have become aware of zenithal highlighting and I love the look it gives, but obviously I can't accomplish it with an airbrush where I live. Is it possible to use this technique without an airbrush or spray can? How would you go about it?

Humidity isn't as rough on airbrushes as some spray cans. You can get a small spray booth with an exhaust fan that will pull any fumes and stray spray right out your window.

To answer your actual question, you could probably do it with targeted drybrushing, but it's not going to be quite the same, and probably more labor intensive.
