Question: Modifying already assembled bike models

So I've been collecting bikes since about third edition, and I'm wanting to make some changes that definitely would be rather invasive to the kits. In essence, there are two things I want to do:

1) Most importantly, removing an arm holding the handlebar (hands glued on), and replacing it with a different arm holding a weapon.

2) If possible, removing the stock bike faceplate, and replacing it with a Ravenwing one.

I have some minor experience with modding, but I would still identify as a relative amateur. My questions are--firstly, what is the correct way to go about with these changes--how difficult would the process be, what snags can I expect, and what can I do about those changes?

All of the miniatures I plan to alter are primed, but not painted.

First of all, do you know how they were attached Plastic glue will melt the two bits together, meaning you can only separate them by cutting/sawing through. If the bits were superglued, put them in the freezer and hope he glue beomes brittle enough that you can tear the bits loose.

1. If you have a spare bike handle, just cut it off. If not, do you have the right diameter plastic tubing or alternative to make a new handle?

2. Hope it was superglued and not put together with plastic cement . If you have a dremel, remove as much as possible with a cutting disk, then grind the rest down. Removing the fairing this way is pretty invasive surgery, be aware you could lose the patient.
