You have just found two different painting methods; the book and duncan's video don't match, they aren't intended to match for that matter.

Regarding the auric armour, in the video Duncan explicitly says:
"When you are ready all you've got to do is start applying this to the armour, but this time avoid recessed detail where the shade has settled"

Reikland flesh shade is normally used on golds because it adds warmth to the colour whilst darkening the recess, whereas something like agrax earthshade will just give a dark recess.

Glosses are purely a preference thing, some people find they flow better, others want the gloss for certain reasons, others don't care.

Yes but does he mean to put it on ALL the flat armour parts or just the armour symbols? If it's the latter then it does match the book and would also conflict with it it, meaning I wouldn't be able to take parts from the book and apply it to the video.
What I want to do is highligt all the lighting and Aquila motifs like how it shows in the book but finish the model off Duncan style. Now I just gotta gotta get something to remove this paint I accidently sprayed too much of..
