XYZ Division - Complete 3D Printable Gaming

Hey Guys,

We have been around DakkaDakka for sometime now, however all under different usernames and with our upcoming KS campaign we thought it would be best to start an account under the XYZ Division banner!

Don't worry we already know what your saying - "Oh here we go, another Kickstarter" , "3D printing - probably making some dungeon tiles or scenery, Its been done before" , "3D printing is expensive, rule me out"

So what makes us diffrent to everyone else who has ran a Kickstarter campaign centred around 3D Printing? Well we are offering the very first online subscription based table top game!

In a nutshell - XYZ Division is a post apocolyptic table top wargame set in 2190, approximately 130 years after NessaCorp unleashed a deadly virus culling humanity from the world. Of course not everyone died (that would lead to a boring game) and collations between nations arose, ensuing a great technological age. As time has passed it has become apparent that there is a lack of usable resources available on Earth so they are now having to look to the starts for a new planet to inhabit.

You get access an ever growing online portal, complete with an abundance of customisable 33mm figurines and scenic Items which you can print off as times as you like. We utilize both FDM technology (mainly for scenic buildings) and SLA printing technology (for printing figurines, vehicles and scenic objects) There is a wealth of lore surrounding this new universe with both a main story and spin off stories for the factions we have created. We are well aware that gamers like to modify and create 3d printable pieces for use with the table top games they play but corporate Colin comes along and requests that you take it down immediately due to infringing their IP. With XYZ Division you get none of that, we want to see your creations and actually reward for sharing your models with the XYZ Division community.

"Youve lost me already, I don't have one 3D printer never mind two" - Bear with us, we hear you, but we do believe that this technology will end up in your home in the near future due to the cost of the machines available to print highly detailed and intricate models at a fraction of the price wargaming models cost in the marktet today consistently dropping.nWe have been liaising with 3D Hubs to get fixed pricing on all of our models and with 750 million people within 10 miles of a hub you can print you chosen models out locally.

We do offer free play as well, this lets gamers print off basic models for select factions, but rather than having a complete customised squads they will only be able to print off one static figurine.

The rule mechanisms have been stripped back. Upon playtesting it became apparent that having a rule book circa 80-100 pages was not the way forward. As we are eager to entice new gamers as well as the seasons gamers amongst yourself to play XYZ Division we have created a core rule set, with the aim of growing the rules with the fan base. We will also have a dedicated forum page letting you voice your views on rule changes and other gaming issues so you truly feel part of XYZ Division, you can even raise requests and if they get enough traction they will be put to an 'online vote' where subscription members can vote on the change.

Now as gamers we were getting annoyed that models we liked sometimes were discontinued due to the model not reaching the projected sales targets, we also do not agree with the current prices of models, especially the price some gamers have to pay if they are based in counties such as Australia. We also felt that at times the gaming community was ignored by major corporations who cared more about there profits than making their fans happy. This is why XYZ Division was created.

You can find out more about us here - www.XYZDivision.com or check out our instagram page where we are heavily active - https://www.instagram.com/xyzdivision/

Below is a sneak peak of the models on offer, please let us know your thoughts! What models would you like to see being created?

Re:XYZ Division - Complete 3D Printable Gaming

I wish you all the best with your project. Some thoughts;

a) I feel it perhaps isn't the best time to be announcing a new game with 40K 8th right around the corner - this is inevitably going to dominate the forum and people's wallets for a few months at least. Just in terms of Dakka, the sheer weight of traffic in the News thread means it drowns out pretty much any other thread in here.

b) Whilst I agree that 3D printing is the 'next big thing', I'm not convinced that asking people to arrange to have stuff printed themselves is the way to go. It isn't anything I would bother with, for example. Hell, I can't even get around to painting 2/3rds of my stuff, let alone making it! I would suggest you offer traditional, pre-printed or pre-made models and scenery for the people who can't be bothered otherwise you are just cutting off a large tranche of your market.

That being said, it is always nice to welcome diversity in the wargaming market so I hope you enjoy success!

XYZ Division - Complete 3D Printable Gaming

Hey Filbert, Thanks for your comments, we appreciate them!

We fully intent to offer complete 3D printed items, both figurines and scenic models. 3D printing at home is straight forward and more and more printers are becoming increasingly affordable. Having a database full of gaming models users can print at the touch of a button we believe will be the future.

We agree that people don't want to arrange to have their stuff printed out if they don't own a printer, we wouldn't want to do this either!

A successful KS campaign would aid us in our creation of integrated software which would allow our online platform to 'talk' directly to the hubs. If a model is purchased then the order would be sent directly to a hub which is local to the purchaser. This cuts down manufacturing costs and delivery costs which I am sure gamers down in Australia would appreciate!
