Just stripped some pewter minis and they came out somewhat dark. Any ideas?

I used the ultrasonic cleaner and super clean. At first I strarted with the version of super clean that is meant to clean car rims. It didn't seem to be doing that great of a job so I switched to normal formula super clean and it stripped them without any problem. The only thing is now the pewter is darker than before. Does anyone know if this could be th black primer, or the cleaner. Thanks for the help!

Could be either, but is unlikely to be an issue for repainting either way.

in the future i would recommend using 95% rubbing alcohol. i tried using cleaner, lower percentage alcohol and they worked ok, but required lot of scrubbing. 95% alch the paint practically fell off of them and i only soaked them for a few hours, not overnight.
you could try that now?

It's happened to plenty of the minis I've stripped. However I've never had some come out that they looked like black primer. I've had many metals go very dark grey - particularly if I left them in the stripping solution too long. Doesn't impact the metal or future painting at all.

Some come out shiny new, some come out darker grey. Also possible this has to do with different metals - perhaps some I've had were recasts I was unaware of? Not entirely sure.

Really you just removed the release agent used when casting the metal models. You have done your metal models a favor and removed the shiny sheen and now your primer and paint will stick to the model better.

I use Super Clean & Purple Power in my ultrasonic cleaner and get the same result, a darker gray cleaned metal model.
