Tau Painting Questions

So I've got a few questions, some of which are specific to Tau, and several that aren't.

1) How do I paint burns and scorch marks on Hashut Copper? Heated metal?

2) How should I paint stealth suits and my Ghostkeel? The same color as the rest of my army? The color of their bases? Or something else?

3) Is there any way to quickly prime drones that have already been glued onto their flying bases?

Thanks in advance.

Tau Painting Questions

Hi!
1. I would probably airbrush the area black, then layer it different gradients of grey.

2. Its up to you really. I've seen quite a few cool camo patterns. Just google it and see if you find a look you like.

3. In Norway we have something called pianowire, they're super stiff steel rods they use for rc cars. I would snipp off the drone, drill the bottom and pin it with the rod. Looks 10x better than the plastic thing they come with. jusf prime the rod black and it's almost invisible.

If that's too big of a hassle you can just use masking tape on the plastic rod.

For item 1 there a few tutorials on these boards for it. First one I found was here. Go to the bit about painting the engine

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/669239.page#8234080

Tau Painting Questions

I'm painting my stealth suits in a dark grey, like a B2 stealth bomber, with muted sept colours etc. To me it carries that modern image of stealth technology, but it does have a couple of disadvantages; 1) if you put them in city terrain (particularly unpainted terrain) they tend to...disappear. You have to remember to use them! 2) it can be a bit depressing spending a lot of time and effort painting up a model that ends up pretty much the same colour as the sprue it came from.

I reversed the cam pattern of my line squads for my stealth suits. Grey Base with black and white disruption pattern rather than white and grey on black. Helps tie them into the rest of the army while still being distinct.

Re:Tau Painting Questions

Man, there's a lot of good suggestions here. I suppose I should have prefaced my question one with the note that I'm still pretty new at painting and can't afford an airbrush right now.

Anyway, I guess I wasn't looking for light heat damage so much as extreme, this just got a chunk gouged out of it with a plasma gun heat damage. I'm getting ready to paint one of the first fire warriors I modeled, and I screwed up his shoulder pad pretty badly getting it off the sprue so I went with it and damaged it further, scarred up his face, and used one of his arms as the handless one that comes in the old kit. I guess I'm trying to get a natural cherry red that's blackened around the edges.

Thanks for all the help so far!
