Oryza's Painting and Clearance Project

After many years of gaming, I have a huge backlog of unpainted models, armies that were started but never brought to realization, cool models I bought on a whim, unfinished projects and a good sized bitz box. I'm sure this is a situation that many of you can relate to.

Well, I am moving house and took the opportunity to unpack everything in my boxes of armies and figures and take stock. It's...daunting. Easily covered both of my 6'x4' work tables and then some. I decided it was time to do something. I set myself a goal; I will clear all of this stuff out.

I have two rules:
1) No new model purchases until everything I currently have is either fully painted and assembled, or sold.

2) I will try to work on this for at least 15 minutes every day. I have spent a few days getting everything laid out and organized, so now I will add updating this thread as well as posting to my general blog on at least a weekly basis.

I don't have enough spare time to game much, so I don't have the need to finish new units for an upcoming game (although with the advent of 8th edition 40k, I am also looking to get some of my old armies in fighting form again). My aim therefore is to work on cool conversions and concepts, practice and improve my painting skills, and put together game-usable units (even if I don't currently play the particular army that the models are for). I have models stretching all the way back to things like the RBT001 boxed set and plastic Squats that will eventually appear here, so stay tuned for some nostalgia and one man's attempt to get current with his hobby.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The first project will be a few Reaper Bones figures I have lying around. I never did the Kickstarters, but for a while my job had me traveling quite a bit, and I tried to go in to the FLGS in any small town I passed through and buy something. Sometimes this was just a token figure, and so I ended up with a handful of random Reaper Bones in my collection. I figure these will be a good way to shake off some of the rust (and find out which of my paints have completely dried out)!

I am keeping a work log where I number and track the progress on each project, so these are BON-0002 through BON-0005. So far I have just washed them off and taken care of the flashing and mould lines, although it seems with these Bones figures you can never get them entirely cleaned up. Has to do with the nature of the manufacturing process, I guess.

Adding another Bones figure to the pile, this is actually project BON-0001, a Gnoll Archer. I can't prime anything in my current apartment, and the local makerspace I was going to use turns out not to be a viable solution either, so I am switching gears a bit and moving over to some models that were already primed and ready to paint previously.

Next up on the table, an ancient GW Inquisitor that I found in the old junk bin at an FLGS in Grand Forks, ND on a work trip. They had all kinds of stuff at that store, I was tempted to blow all my per diem on vintage Chaos models.

This fellow will be accompanying some more modern indentured troopers who serve as his assistants.
