Terrain

Does anyone make quality affordable terrain anymore for either 40k or WHFB?

I know about the AU company that started making drop pods, and they also have a line of terrain, but there was mixed reports. And Armorcast (think that was the name) stopped making their terrain sets

RE: Terrain

Have to agree with Anung, if you're looking to save money but still have nice terrain, try building yourself.

It seems VERY daunting at first but you get the hang of it quickly (probably quicker than modeling, painting, etc.). Personally, go out and but "How To Make Wargames Terrain" (2nd Ed.) by GW and "How to Make Dioramas" by Shepard Paine (Shep Paine was probably the greatest modeler who ever lived and he's a VERY good writer). These two books are VERY easy to understand, have lots of good tips, and (with Shep Paine's book) you get some painting and modeling tips as well.

Also, check out http://www.coolminiornot.com , http://www.terragenesis.co.uk , and http://www.ironhands.com for inspiration and tips

RE: Terrain

Alot of it is about your time and the money you have to spend. I do both. I make quite a bit of terrain for stores when I work at them as well as for my self, but I also buy a fair amount if its good stuff and decently priced. Yes armor cast stuff was great but was priced a bit high ( dont be fooled I own loads of it ) I do mostely 40K terrain.

That Ausy company has fantastic stuff and the price for the quality of what you get I dont think can be beat. I bought 6 of those adobe style building for my Orks, the went together like a snap, I used wood glue to give them some strength ans well as mounted them to MDF board, they are great and dirt cheap for what they are. I have plans for quite a large gothic ruins set and at least 3 or so of those drop pods. I highly recommend them and if you in the US the Warsotre has them for order.

Like I said if you have loads of time and no money then scratch build the stuff. If you have some coin you can buy some great stuff at model rail road shops and other hobby stores to inhance your scratch building. No time but disposable income. Buy the stuff and call it done.

RE: Terrain

Righto, I build my own terrain, and plan to spend the $$ on the new CoD stuff. I took a break from the hobby and had planned to buy a whole slew of things from Armor cast before I left. But since then they have discountinued their terrain lines. I was wondering if any other companies made comp stuff.

Thats interesting you say that, as I have heard a lot of negative comments about the terrain and drop pods. I might check them out. THe warstore is distributing them now, which is great news. Hopefully more indy companies will setup up.
