40k 8th Edition Demo Days

Hello i am working on a series of demo days in Central Indiana. I will be using a painted copy of Dark Imperium.

I am curious if anyone has any tips. Any insights into how to run a tight and smooth demo that will showcase the best parts of the game. Any tips on how to find gamers willing to take a test drive on 40k? Anyone wanna help me with my demos 1st demo day is at Fishers Library in Fishers Indiana July 22nd 10am-5 pm . There will be around 5 games and a min of 20 gamers i hope.

What have you done in the past to get people into 40k.

Is anyone else going to be doing a demo of Dark imperium. Whats your plan and where at?

As someone who used to work in retail at a hobby shop that did demos, the best tip I've got is to make sure to sell the fantasy of the conflict. It's easy to get caught up in explaining what values need to be rolled, and how certain rules are resolved, and forget to keep the fun and flavor alive. Always make sure players know who they're playing as, what they want, and how they can get that. Add in fun little descriptions when things happen ("A bullet the size of a coke can punches through one of the Plague Marine's chest plates, but his bloated body just shrugs it off"), and try to keep the action going. I will always take a demo that is fun and memorable over one that is 100% rules accurate, so don't worry if you make a mistake.

Otherwise, just like most other parts of the hobby, you just have to practice. The more demos you do, the more you'll find what works or doesn't. And even the best demo-runner will have ups and downs, so don't get discouraged.

thanks a lot. Good tips I think will try to incorporate more narrative apects and make sure to tell a story. Its not like the player is going to get some deep tactical experience out of their first game they might as well get a good story. thanks again
