In addition to all the new stuff that arrived, I'm exceptionally hyped for the two new characters that Have entered the stage: The Chaos Hellwright and the Hellwright on abeyant. The rules as currently written wouldn't support it, but could a person take Adeptus Mechanicus from the 8e Index Imperium 2, and have their <FORGE WORLD> be <DARK MECHANICUS> and replace <IMPERIUM> with <CHAOS>?

Is Dark Mechanicum in < > or is it like Imperium where it's just a bolded word? See? That's why the <> keyword rules are too ambiguous lol.
There is no rule that says that Dark Mechanicus acts as a possible legion choice. Some units simply have the option of using the dark mechanicum keyword.
There isn't any way to interpret what the RAI here is. RAW you can only use dark mech on the knights or the hellwright.
The knights are their own faction too and have nothing to do with heretic astartes, so it seems to be it's own faction.
Same as Eyrine Cults except that those are always also <legion> faction, whereas dark mech is dark mech or bust.

So right now, there isn't really much of a dark mech faction. you have knights and a character, that's it.
There is nothing that actually spells out that Dark Mechnicum is a choice for the legion keyword unless you simply assume it is.
...Of course, conversely, there is nothing saying that The Tainted is a legion keyword either soooo, yea.

Except the book explicitly just says <Legion> OR Dark Mechanicus in the keywords on the Hellwright.
