Valkyrie Disembarking/Grav Chute Insertion

Quick question on Valkyrie Grav Chute: I can disembark at any time during the vehicle's move, but can I disembark within 9" of units as long as I move less than 20" and not do the "roll D6 per guy, hope you don't get 1s" thing? As I've interpreted, I can move 19" and disembark passengers right next to an enemy unit; I think such because it appears that the "disembarking at any point during the move" clause applies to the Valkyrie in all cases, period. Meanwhile, you must roll and take casualties on 1s only under certain circumstances, when you move 20" or more. The final sentence, which effectively says "you must deploy more than 9" from enemy units when you do this appears to mean under specific circumstances, and not in all cases.

I'd love to drop some power maul Bullgryns from the sky straight into a vulnerable units, of course, but there's a lot of ambiguity as to whether the last sentence in the rule applies to the entire rule, or just the second half detailing movement of 20+"

Valkyrie Disembarking/Grav Chute Insertion

What's the 'manner' in the phrase "disembark in this manner"? The only answer seems to be "grav chute insertion". The potential casualties portion of the rule is based on total movement rather than the method of disembarking. GCI is the rule that changes when the models may disembark, and the that alternate disembarkation is then further modified in two ways, one to account for situations involving movement greater than 20", and two to change the resrictions on that

Imperium 2 Index wrote:"Models may disembark from this vehicle at any point during its move, but if the Valkyrie moves more than 20", you must roll a D6 for each model disembarking. On a 1, that model is slain. Models that disembark in this manner must be set up more than 9" from any enemy models.

I see two possible interpretations to "disembarking in this manner":

1. "Disembarking in this manner" refers to disembarking at any point during the move, as opposed to disembarking before the Valkyrie moves. This interpretation is less favorable for the embarked passengers.

2. "Disembarking in this manner" refers only to disembarking after the Valkyrie moved 20+", and the passengers must roll 2+ to survive disembarking. This interpretation means moving any distance less than 20" will allow passengers to disembark after the Valkyrie has moved this shorter distance, providing favorable positioning possibilities for the passengers.

I could see either interpretation being the intended meaning, but the rule is unfortunately rather grammatically ambiguous. I hope including the rule itself in this post may help clear things up.

I feel that is a fair conclusion. I think I will indeed stick to the more conservative interpretation of the rule, as it aligns with other deployment rules and seems to fit RAI better. Thanks for your insight.
