Ynnari... exactly how does their keyword work?

Ok, so if building an army, can I stick with Aeldari as my only linking keywords and literally just apply the Ynnari keyword to whoever I want?
So any Harlequin units could keep crescendo, DE units keep power from pain etc?
Or, if I am using Ynnari, then all units take the keyword? It's very messy.
Since strength from death only works with infantry and bikes, I'd be better off keeping their original powers if not infantry/bikes.

Ynnari... exactly how does their keyword work?

I think that if you make a force Ynnari, it's all or nothing for that detachment. If you take a second detachment you can make that one Aeldari and they would not get SfD and keep their regular abilities. That's how I'm playing it, anyways. In a Ynnari detachment, everything needs to be Ynnari.

Nope no such restrictions, All units keep Aeldari keyword so they can be combined and there is no rule that says you can't mix and match (just that Haemonuculi covens cannot be ynnari).

Do note that the yncarnes special rule only affects Ynari.

Ynnari... exactly how does their keyword work?

You have two options:

1. An Aeldari army with Ynnari in it. In this case, only the Yvraine, Visarch and Yncarne get the Strength from Death ability, and only they can make Soulbursts.

2. An Ynnari army. In this case, anything with the Aeldari keyword is legal save the shortlist of specifically forbidden units, which may not be in your army at all. Everything loses PfP/RC/BF and gains Strength from Death, no picking and choosing.

Note that either way, only the Yvraine and Visarch get Ynead's will, so your other models still can't borrow other faction's transports.

Ynnari... exactly how does their keyword work?

I think the rules as written are pretty clear on this.

The only way that the rules provide to grant units the Ynnari keyword is if you take them as part of an Ynnari army. And if you do take Aeldari units as part of an Ynnari army, each one gains the Ynnari keyword -- you don't get a choice once you've decided to put an Aeldari unit in an Ynnari army. This is just the first two sentences of "Army of the Reborn" and I don't see that there's any real room for interpretation.

The rules are also pretty clear that an "army" is everything you're bringing to the table -- it's not just a single detachment. For example, p212 of the BRB says that an "army" is the thing that you're building to a specified points limit in a matched play game. The rules are not very clear on what it means to be a "<faction> army", but there's no wiggle room here because either you've got an Ynnari army and all of your Aeldari units are Ynnari or you don't have an Ynnari army and none of them are (except the 3 Ynnari HQs).

I read that sentence differently then you it seems.

I read that any unit as you choose for individual units not the entire army.

My own two cents: there is outside of matched play(1 faction keyword in common across the entire army) and maybe this no rule that crosses detachmants when it comes to what you can and cannot choose in an army tough there are sometimes detriments (chanticles, character buffs, ...)
