Understanding how to mix/match chaos units and daemon units in God specific armies

Maybe I'm reading the index wrong, but it's not clear to me how these things are able to be paired together. Can a world eaters army include skarbrand or a regular bloodthirster, since they both have the khorne keyword? Can I use the changeling in a thousand sons force for the same reason? And what about the daemon prince of chaos on page 105, he seems so much better than the normal daemon prince on page 21, which armies can use the one on page 105? It says when you take one they gain the keyword of the god you choose, does that open him up for world eaters / thousand sons / death guard / emperors children armies?

Understanding how to mix/match chaos units and daemon units in God specific armies

You can have any unit you want in a detachment as long as they all share at least a keyword. Every unit in the index shares at least the "Chaos" keyword, so you can mix without any restriction at all.

About the daemon princes, the wounds characteristic on the "of chaos" one is a missprint, both have 8 wounds. So the only difference is the "of chaos" one has an extra ability associated with his mark and the "marines" one aura affects both demons and marines, while the "of chaos" one only affects demons

Understanding how to mix/match chaos units and daemon units in God specific armies

Well that's great news! I can see the of chaos variety being superior based god, nurgle for instance, 5+ FnP is a pretty big deal. I think what confused me was the boxed area at the beginning of each specialized legions section in the index. "You can include these data slates in your thousand sons army" etc etc.

Re:Understanding how to mix/match chaos units and daemon units in God specific armies

Those restrictions only apply if you want to field a very specific Thousand Sons force, or a Death Guard or World Eaters warband. They are more for determining whether you have a fluffy army of that type.

Point is, the real difference lies in the fact that if you keep to the restrictions, for example the World Eaters ones on page 45 of the index, you don't get to include daemons in your World Eaters army. They are not on the list (pages 16 through 42 inclusive). However, you do get to use Khorne Berzerkers as Troops instead of Elites. The same goes for the other legions mentioned. Thousand Sons have a restrictive list on page 49. No Tzeentch Flamers on there, no Changeling or Blue Scribes. But they do get to have Rubrics as Troops.

Opposite that, you can have an army with (Elite battlefield role, not Troops, note how the list on page 49 specifically refers to the Rubric Marines on page 54 and not those on 29) Rubric Marines and a couple of Tzeentch Screamers and what not. The army would still be battleforged, as they all share CHAOS as faction keyword. However, even if everything has a dedication to Tzeentch, they are not Thousand Sons.

The boxes simply tell you what units can have the legion keyword in question, not which units you can include in your list. There will undoubtedly be benefits for picking pure Thousand Sons for your detachment in the future, but those benefits do not currently exist.

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/731447.page

Well that's what I'm wondering and why it was so confusing. They give you this list, here are all the things that can be thousand sons, but it confers no apparent benefit whatsoever, instead it makes it appear you're very limited in what you can choose. Until you realize, oh, everything has the chaos keyword, I can include any mix of things I like in a battle forged army.
