1) The paint, particularly the gold looks really heavily laid on. Thin your paints, just a bit of water (or honestly dip your brush in water before dipping it in the paint, that works fine)
2) The colours are kind of all over the place. Gold, yellow, crimson, silver, purple, lighter yellow, blue, etc. It really needs some work. It's very random and doesn't flow particularly well together.
3) If you can't do checkers, don't try them. They're tough as balls to do. One solution is to paint the shoulder pad separately --- you can even draw on the grid with a small .5mm pencil before you try painting it. But it helps to know your own limitations. There's a reason my army emblems are all stupidly simple I try to stay within my comfort zone...my hand shakes too much to try something that tiny/ornate.
4) The hair could use a simple brown/sepia wash to help it stand out.
5) The eyes are another example of trying a bit too hard. The vast majority of minis even in 28mm scale can get away without painting eyes. Very few people can paint really good eyeballs, the rest of us should probably leave them out. Badly done eyes stick out like a sore thumb - very obvious. Kinda like big googly eyes!
6) The base could use some work. Consider some different size ballast (the rocks/sand you're using) and apply it before priming, then paint it afterwards. Bare ballast or sand rarely fits in with a painted model.

Overall, a solid effort.
