I am pretty new to 40k, having only really started a few months ago. Before that i played age of sigmar for a year with stormcast and even further back, before i took a 7 year break i played LOTR. I feel like getting started with 40k with the beginning of 8th was a smart move, as everyone at my local GW says that the rules have been simplfied and are much easier to learn now.
My first step into the 40k universe came from Dawn of War, mainly dark crusade, and i poured many hundreds of hours of my early teenage years into that game. So i thought "hey!, lets actually try some 40k in-store, i already play LOTR" so i thought it would be easy. Well i bounced around a few factions, starting with chaos, and khorne specifically, then moved onto marines, and then finally Tau. I couldnt really find the right faction for myself so i never really got past the initial 5 man boxes of each faction, possibly buying the tau battleforce i think before i quit for those years (i have no idea where that is now however ). The rules also were a barrier for me, going from LOTR to 40k was quite a big step for little me back then and unlike LOTR's very simple gameplay, i found myself boggled with the rules of 40k.
This leads me on to the current time period. I believe i have found the right faction for myself (i hope so ) and that is the talons. Now i have very little knowledge right now of what i can bring, only that as long as they are in the same faction, they can be brought together, so i have just purchased the talons of the emperor as the whole witch hunter, demon hunter thing got me thinking that this is these are the right guys, i realise the codex's within are 7th so they are unusable and i will be relying on the imperium 2 index instead.
Now my questions to you guys are (if i can post questions on this thread?) :
I was thinking of making a talons/Grey knights army, what should i be wary of with them i.e do they have weaknesses and what are they best against (presumably chaos)?
Seeing as the talons only contains Custodes and telepathica, what should be the first Grey Knights i pick up?
What common mistakes do people make while making an army?
Are talons and grey knights complementary or should i be looking elsewhere than grey knights for allies?
I was looking at a few named characters and i would any of the following be good to put in this sort of army: Inquistor Greyfax, Inquisitor Coteaz and Castellan Crowe.
and as i final request, could any kind soul possibly just do i quick write up of a 2k point generic army of talons and grey knights, im not looking for indepth so no wargear, just mainly what units would it consist of.
