Zedmeister's gone blogging - Sons of Medusa with a little Kriegsman

Well, it's about time I at least put some effort into a P&M blog. I'm a very sporadic painter and I've recently decided that it's high time to actually get an army painted for 8th edition 40k. Over the last 5 years, I've not played much 40k and scant less 30k (having a child, lack of time, limited funds, 7th edition malaise - the usual) and my painting has fallen right behind. Actually, I've played more Battlefleet Gothic in the last 5 years than any other game combined. Along with ongoing mass purges of my pile of shame, I've decided to concentrate on a smaller group of figures. I've also adopted a "must be painted first" creed for my games - no more grey hordes of shame. First up, my Sons of Medusa force:

Sons of Medusa
Loved their background from Imperial Armour 10 and the fact these fellows skirted the edges of the accepted creed. Nowadays, they are pretty much battlefield scavengers extraordinaire. I wanted to reflect that scavenger aspect by using a mishmash of different marks and older technology with a few bionics thrown in. Most of the older stuff having been "scavenged" from their previous owners. Besides, it gives me an excuse to incorporate a lot of the excellent looking Horus Heresy equipment from Forgeworld.

For the scheme, I've gone for a metallic green (thanks Tamiya!) with a chipped and worn effect. The vehicles and dreadnoughts are getting an oil wash as well to dirty them up somewhat. Here's what I've finished so far:

Captain/Techmarine (can't really tell the difference in the Sons of Medusa)

Tactical squad

Mk IV Ironclad Dreadnoughts

Love this mark of Dreadnought. They look more brutal and they've got a more advanced look than the plastic ones.

Mk IV Siege Dreadnought

Leviathan Dreadnought "Ancient Gharan"

I've actually magnetised the arms and weapons allowing me to switch them out as needed.

Death Korps of Krieg
I'm a guardsman at heart and have been collecting them in some form from way back when I started with 40k. I've neglected them recently (been distracted with Forgeworld's Horus Heresy releases) but I think it's high time I retire my older models (mainly unpainted - for shame!) and build up a Krieg army for 8th - been wanting one for a long time and I think now is the time. Here's a test piece I knocked together:

Death Korps Quartermaster

Next up for the Sons, I've got two more tactical squads as well as a bunch of Rhinos sat on my painting table. They're waiting to get oiled up. I've also got some Terminators, a devastator squad and a land raider waiting for assembly.

For the Krieg, I've got a Thunder Siege Tank that's been painted and oiled and it is now drying (been drying for a few days now) as well as a few other tanks that have been primed (Vanquisher, Resin Stormsword and a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT). My next Forgeworld order will probably involve a lot of Krieg.
