Thinning old GW ink for airbrush

I just rediscovered my old GW inks, and they are so great. I discovered by airbrushing purple ink over metal finishes you get a beetle carapace like appearance. The only problem is its a little bit too thick. I tried thinning with water but the airbrush didnt like that. I need some kind of medium to dilute the ink, but it must stay glossy. Any ideas?
