[2000] - Space Wolves - Semi-Casual

Working on adapting an older list to 8th edition. Intended to strike a nice balance between fluffy and competitive - but curious what others think!

=== Detachment: Vanguard (+1 Command Point) ===

+++ HQ +++

+ Rune Priest with Jump Pack, Runic Armor, Runic Axe, Psychic Hood, Plasma Pistol, Storm Caller (131)
... Accompanies Skyclaws

+ Wolf Priest on Bike, Plasma Pistol, Crozius Arcanum (142)
... Accompanies Swiftclaws

+++ TROOPS +++

+ Grey Hunters (142)
... 1 w/ Melta Gun
... 1 w/ Plasma Pistol + Chain Sword
... 2 w/ Bolt Pistol + Chain Sword
... 1 Pack Leader w/ Frost Sword + Bolt Pistol
... 1 Wold Guard Leader w/ Power Fist + Plasma Plasma

+ Razorback w/ Twin-Linked Assault Cannons, Smoke, Storm Bolter (102)

+ Grey Hunters (142)
... 1 w/ Melta Gun
... 1 w/ Plasma Pistol + Chain Sword
... 2 w/ Bolt Pistol + Chain Sword
... 1 Pack Leader w/ Frost Sword + Bolt Pistol
... 1 Wold Guard Leader w/ Power Fist + Plasma Plasma

+ Razorback w/ Twin-Linked Assault Cannons, Smoke, Storm Bolter (102)

+++ ELITES +++

+ Venerable Dreadnought w/ Heavy Plasma Cannon, Heavy Flamer, Smoke (128)

+ Scouts (124)
... 1 w/ Plasma Pistol + Chainsword
... 1 w/ Melta Gun
... 2 w/ Bolt Pistol + Chainsword
... 1 Pack Leader w/ Plasma Pistol + Chainsword
... 1 Wolf Guard Leader w/ Power First + Plasma Pistol

+ Wolf Guard Terminators (354)
... 1 w/ Assault Cannon + Chain Fist
... 2 w/ Wolf Caws
... 2 w/ Combi-Plasma + Chainfist
... 1 Pack Leader w/ Combi-Plasma + Frost Axe

+++ FAST ATTACK +++

+ Skyclaws (200)
... 1 w/ Plasma Pistol + Chainsword
... 1 w/ Flamer
... 5 w/ Bolt Pistol + Chainsowrd
... 1 Pack Leader w/ Pair of Wolf Claws
... 1 Wolf Guard Leader w/ Power Fist + Plasma Pistol

+ Swiftclaw Bikes (230)
... 2 w/ Plasma Pistols
... 1 Pack Leader w/ Frost Sword
... 1 Wolf Guard Leader w/ Power Fist
... 1 Attack Bike with Multi-Melta + Chainword

+++ HEAVY SUPPORT +++

+ Predator w/ Predator Autocannon, 2 Lascannons, Storm Bolter, Smoke (203)

--------------------------------------------
TOTAL Points = 2000
--------------------------------------------

The basic idea is that one unit of Grey Hunters + Razorback accompany the Swiftclaw Bikers and Wolf Priest (who can heal swiftclaw wounds, buff to-hit, etc.). The other Grey Hunters + Razorback can Advance with the Predator for fire support. The Dreadnought needs to start in a forward position and can advance towards objectives and draw fire. The Terminators can deep strike with the sky claws and the rune priest can give them cover when he drops in as well. The Wolf Scouts are for harassing the back line (dealing with artillery, etc.) or if needed can come in on a side and move towards an objective.

Honestly, if you want jump packs and bikes, just run Wolf Guard. You'll be better off for it.

Re:[2000] - Space Wolves - Semi-Casual

Hello

I am not personaly a fan of swiftclaws and skyclaw, but they do an effective job in CC. I would remove the plasma pistols from them since their BS is 4+ so its kinda wasted on them. Same goes for the attack bike.

For the wolf guard, i would swicth the chainfist for thunder hammer; cheaper and does more damages. Also consider at least one storm shield.

You will lack command points and anti armour with your list.

Thanks for the feedback.

i could rework the biker squad to use wolf guard and give a few more special weapons instead of the attack bikes. The points wouldn't be too different but the ranged firepower would be better, especially with BS 3+.

I'm temped to drop the sky claws and maybe switch them to another grey hunter + razor back combo. That way I can take a battalion detachment and get more command points. Or maybe normal blood claws in a rhino. Might have to drop the scouts or something, but I do like those scouts.

Does that sound like an improvement?

Yes, by a lot!

To give you a general idea, I use 2 squads of bloodclaws, cheap and effective. I use them as scrificial lamb for assaulting first.

You should consider dropping the dreadnought; alone it doesn't do much... Use longfang or another pred instead if you're looking for firepower. Otherwise, if you want to attrack as much fire as it can, try the great axe with shild and rush your opponent.

Yeah, the dread doesn't seem like it quite fits. I love dreads but it can't really keep up with the rest of the force and lacks flexibility. Good call on maybe removing that and beefing up other elements of the list.
