Have two light sources both shining on the subject from different directions at an angle. It helps better light the model and even out the shadows.

I've benn struggling to get tidy photos as well. From what everyone keeps telling me the more light the better. Gonna be getting some daylight lamps soon so hopefully they work. Seems to be the main thing though so maybe if you can invest in more light.

Get you a box and drape a piece of white, or black, paper from the top back corner to about the middle of the bottom. Then aim 2 separate light sources at your mini from different angles. This eliminates external lighting, gives a solid color background, and reduces shadows.

Edit: This article will help a lot. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2016/11/13/the-model-photo-how-to-photograph-models-for-display/

I've got a lightbox that's almost identical to this one. It's nice because it folds up and has compartments to store everything. The backdrops it comes with are ok to get started with, but I'd recommend running out to a fabric store and picking up something a little nicer if you want a solid color - or get a gradient image printed up at a local print shop to fit in behind it.

These typically drop in price around the holidays too - Think I got mine for about $30.00 but it didn't include the phone stand.
http://a.co/4aJ09Ix

If you want to look into the backdrops, here's a test run I did with my setup for reference.

https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/823261-.html

I find a darker background helps my 5s a lot. Black or even the brown of a cardboard box work a lot better than white. With white the mini tends to be this dark blob in the picture.
