Heres the link to the tutorial i followed for 80 trees though it will take about 3 of the filters to tight pack the layers. My trees also range from 5 to 11 inches tall.

Also for the paint i used gorilla wood glue mixed with fabric dye, a thick coat of the glue and it dried like a wash.
