Uncomfortable with the default airbrush grip

I have a metal dual action airbrush, the normal kind.

I don't know if its because I have long fingers, but I never got comfortable with the grip where you use your index finger on the trigger. I use my thumb, feel I have much better control of things, or at least the amount of paint I let through. Less control of the air pressure. I usually go all or nothing on the amount or air, and more carefully adjust the amount of paint.

If I try with my index finger, it just feels.. unstable or awkward, can't really control the amount of paint well, the finger easily slips on the knob, and just don't feel I have control at all.

Is it a matter of practice, should I just keep trying, or try to adapt the brush somehow, put some rubber on the knob for better grip?

Re:Uncomfortable with the default airbrush grip

There are various tutorials on youtube with people modifying their triggers so you're obviously not the only person that finds the trigger uncomfortable. Here is one using hot glue to increase the height of the trigger.

Uncomfortable with the default airbrush grip

I can understand. I have arthritis. Using the default grip/trigger action is unpleasant. So I don't use my airbrush anymore :(

There is a company, Grex, that makes trigger airbrushes. I've tried one. For me, meh. You may find that it is what you seek. It is a nice airbrush.

A link, for your convenience: http://www.grexusa.com/grexairbrush/products.php5?id=Tritium.TG There may be others.

And it never occurred to me to modify the trigger. Derp. Now I have a New Year's Day project.
