What with the texture paint?

I sort of have a basing fetish (metaphoricly). I absolutly think it is the best part of model and it is like a cherry on top after the long work of painting the models.

I tryed GW's texture paint. The mud and the battlemire (dark brown). What is in them? I love the texture on them!

I did 16 tyranid warriors with sand and paint, but the texture on these paints is just awsome. The texture lend itself so well to drybrush. In compareson the sand now looks very flat even though I felt I did a good job with making them uneven.

What with the texture paint?

The granules in the texture paints are smaller than your average basing sand, and look smoother after it dries due to the binding medium. Sand will naturally settle as it dries, especially if you put a coat of glue over it, which tends to make it flatter. If you want a ton of texture paint for a cheap price and comparable quality look up Vallejo black lava paint.

What with the texture paint?

Something about micro granules if I remember correctly. GW changed the formula a little while ago. Probably a binding agent, pigment and a fine grit.

But I second the Vallejo textures, I've used so much Grey Pumice on my models and it's acrylic so a little dash of paint and it's any colour you need.

Re:What with the texture paint?

Don't like them myself, it dries too fast (in the pot) and you need too much for a whole army or terrain. Or cuz I'm basing hordes lol I'm too cheap to put that much money out for a whole ton of boyz so I just make my own, or use vallejo. Mostly I make my own (you really just need the grade(s) of sand you want, paint, glue and a little water and you're golden).

Happy it works for you though, whatever improves the hobbying!

Vallejo now have pre-colored texture paints too, I'm a huge fan of the Brown Earth.
What with the texture paint?

Big fan of the texture paints from GW. Haven't tried the Valejo ones but I don't find the GW ones bad money. I based 1000points of Ad Mech with a pot of Stirland Mud and in a fraction of the time it would have taken me to do it with sand and pva. The £6 or whatever a pot costs every 1000points is really well worth it for the ease and convenience imo.

What with the texture paint?

I've had decent results with dumping some fine builders' sand (the same stuff I use for bases) into acrylic paint, and mixing thouroughly. It behaves the same way the Citadel stuff does, so if you've got a whole game table to do, don't worry that you'll need to buy fifty tiny pots of texture paint.
