I've been a bit down on the plastics as they're way too much static posing going on in general with them. The fish sadly continue this trend but the Butchers luckily seem to actually have some of the dynamic motion that I fell in love with when the metals were first released.

There's some tragically bad redos there. Boiler and Shank look abysmal and Fillet's metal is one of my favorite models ever that the plastic doesn't hold a candle to. I do really like Princess's massive boost of personality and despite being static, Tenderizer looks terrific. Meathook is the standout, IMO. Huge improvement over the original.

Overall, I'm just not sure. I think switching to plastic would be good for the game overall, but its felt like the game has lost a lot of momentum in the transition.

I did a demo of this game more then a year ago. both people I did it with liked it but it wasn't something they would buy into. Main part due to metal.

Im glad its going to plastic, but yea needs to be more dynamic.

Also its super weird to do Indiegogo then KS. Everyone I know including myself wont touch indie with a 50 foot pole. KS just has a vastly better rep.

Though as mentioned I could see why they would go elsewhere.
I've flirted with getting Fish since I first got into the game, but never pulled the trigger. This is all dependent on price really, they've said they just want to cover the costs, and then make their profit when it goes to retail, so hopefully it'll be a compelling deal.

Those Fish that have had their poses altered I almost universally prefer over the existing ones, so feeling positive right now.

Guildball Plastic (PVC) fishermens and butchers on Indiegogo (Live)

This is what I was waiting for to get into Guild Ball!

I'm fine with either metal or plastic minis, but I wanted to collect Fishermen and Hunters and I was envious of the price drop the newer guilds received when SFG decided to go plastic.

I do have one concern with price regarding this campaign, though...

What we're getting in each order are two sets, each containing 6 players, plus a goal, a ball, and a piece of terrain. This is the same as the sets from the new plastic guilds. Same price, too: current new sets are £35 each, which is £70 for two sets (~$100), which is what we're paying in the campaign.

However, the campaign lists this as a discounted price - down from $120 (~£85). You'd think bundling sets together would make for a lower price, but it looks like these will be receiving a bit of a price hike compared to the existing sets.

Not a deal-breaker, and I'd rather they cover their costs than go bust, but it is a bit of a shame. Still, won't be a problem for those of us who pledge! As long as the campaign works out for them, that is...

That's why there's 2 goals and 2 pieces of terrain and 2 balls.

Still "not discounted" but its possible that future sets are going to be more expensive due to inflation or what have you.
While they have their critics, SFG PVC is an order of magnitude better than "board game" PVC, it isn't HIPS, but it isn't far off, having seen them in person, and they don't require any assembly (but they're not one piece either, they're simply supplied with assembly done.)

Then several of the models are actually terrain pieces, rather than players, and you do get the entire faction as it stands right now, for a skirmish level game which will always command a higher price per mini than a mass battle game due to simple economics. Plus there'll be a full set of tokens making the team playable right away with no prep (albeit admittedly card ones,)

I don't think, given all that, one can really accuse them of being expensive as such, they're not a million miles from what a Malifaux Crew or Infinity list would cost, for instance.

I've said as much on the SFG forum, but the whole project seems to have been set up to fail.

IGG was a weird choice, given they've repeatedly and successfully used KS (although not without precedent, they have used it for the official mat.)

The break down of rewards was minute and expensive. They could have easily set the same financial goal, but offered whole team, the two six man boxes as they now retail in metal separately or a goal + terrain option. I've seen "I don't want to rebuy the models, but I'd have backed for terrain" on multiple occasions across the net.

They have done little to nothing to promote this I've seen. Relying on existing players, who may already own the models, and not a wider audience of newer or potential players has seriously limited the whole project.

They've assumed zero financial liability themselves. Kudos for being up front about what was informing the numbers, but nobody but Steamforged was going to benefit long term from this project's success, even if they weren't not going to profit until retail, they'd still profit for years from the product's availability. That surely warranted them backing it by asuming some of the cost, meaning a lower target or pledge prices?

Given they're no strangers to crowdfunding, this sort of feels like a customer/company version of doing a job badly so your partner, who's been nagging you to do it, doesn't ask you again. Like they've been pressured to do this, didn't really want to for logistical or financial reasons, and now, should customers continue to badger them, can point at the "facts" and claim it's not justified.

Guild Ball

We recently held two Indiegogo community driven campaigns to make the iconic Butcher and Fishermen teams in the brand-new PVC material we have been using for our new Guild releases.

We conducted several surveys with a view to see if there was enough evidence to support bringing these products to market. Our Indiegogo campaigns were capped at 800 backers each, The goal was set to a level that would enable us to produce and bring these products to market .

On this occasion the initial community interest has not, unfortunately, resulted in sufficient backers to make the production of these products viable.

This project has helped us with our planning for Season 4 and beyond. Our attention now is firmly focused on the future of Guild Ball and the exciting experiences we can bring to it - leaving the past behind us.

The alternate sculpts were a hot topic of conversation and seemed to be popular. So, we will be investigating if there are other ways that we can make these available but, at this point, we cannot guarantee that they will ever be released as products.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in this campaign, whether by backing the Indiegogo directly, or discussing the project on our forums or social media. We are grateful for your continued support and are looking forward to sharing with you everything we have planned for an exciting 2018!

Thank you.

well there's the official response from facebook

(and it does sound very much like Azrael13 may well be right, they did them because some were pestering them, but they didn't really have their hearts in it)

It's helped me with my season 4 plans as well in that I am leaving GB and most especially SFG in the past and will not put another penny towards any one of there products ever.

My lfg will be happy as apparently dealing with SFG is apparently like smashing yourself in the face with a bat repeatedly.

There was a part missing from my fisherman season 1 team starter set the store got in touch with SFG who said they would sort it and "Promptly" sent the missing part about 9mths+ later by which point season 2 was out and the game had died on its arse because SFG were useless. I hear they are slightly better now after they got bought out but I don't see it myself

Never by anybody?

But then the whole of Sean's post seems to run counter to the general vibe around SFG, so I guess that's not surprising.

There's the odd grumble, and there's definitely an issue with after sales since their dedicated CSR left, but that's not a picture of the current state of the game that I recognize, either online or in person.

Not really surprised, concur with Az13 it felt a little half-hearted and couldn't really compete with the recent 2nd box for Farmers and Blacksmiths, and the Ratcatchers are close that they present an either / or purchase quandry

That said I could see Fish vs Butchers being a possibility for a revised S4 starter box

Guildball Plastic (PVC) fishermens and butchers on Indiegogo (Live)

I think the big problem with this was that it was basically marketed at existing Guild Ball players.

I bought into Kick Off as it was relatively cheap, and have really struggled to get others into the game. The plastic teams are cheap-ish, but are too complex for demoing with. New players don't like metal either.

I've also found the rules quite hard to explain when compared to the really simple rules of other games at the moment. I don't think it's over-complicated, but I do think the game can be streamlined at least a bit.

I think this Indiegogo failed because the price-point was $100. Few new players are going to invest in it, so basically you're limiting your market to people already playing and who might already have the models. It really pains me to see this fail as I think it's a great game and this would have made life easier for getting other players.

My suggestion for Steamforged is to look at trying to release plastic 3-man teams with one piece of scenery. Basically, release half a box for £20. That's low enough to get new players to invest and have a go. Alongside that, simplify the rules for a 3 v 3 game, and so leave the full game open for them.

I genuinely think there is a demand out there for Guild Ball, particularly as it is quicker than Blood Bowl and quite different. This campaign I think failed because Steamforged didn't clearly link the advantage of plastic miniatures with lowering the cost of entry as each team was $100.
