What is best for making half molds?

I'm not asking about casting. I know how to do that.

What material do you use for making imprints of items, like the face of a shield?

I typically use green stuff. I order it by the ton on Ebay.

But then I wondered, what else do people use for creating the mold for imprinting? Is there a preferable, cheap, plentiful material out there? Or is Green Stuff where it's at?

- edit -

Just found this question in this thread

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/751446.page

Is milliput, brown/green stuff the best choices out there?

A more specific question then.... What would you use to cover a large area, then imprint dozens and dozens of items? Like a large sheet of a material. Right now my green stuff molds are hundreds of individual molds, instead of a large foot long sheet with dozens of imprints in it.

I think it's sometimes called a "press mould". I'm not sure if that helps.

I've done it a few times with green stuff. I'll use a thin layer of mineral oil as release compound. Worked well enough.

You might be interested in oyumaru or blue stuff. It doesn't need a release agent like GS, and once a mold has served its purpose it can be reheated and shaped into a new mold.

Yeah I used to use blue stuff years ago. Fun stuff.

I'm looking for something cheap I can roll out and stamp with dozens and dozens of imprints.

I'm thinking it'll be miliput? I've never used that stuff before.
