Spray primer for T'au Vior'la Sept

Hi!
I just got my Start Collecting: T'au!-set. I want to paint them in the scheme of Vior'la Sept, white and red. Should I spray prime them white or black? Do white coat become too bright, or would black make it too dark?
Thanks!

Red is bit hard on black so white probably better.

Alternative might be grey which isn't too dark and gives nice base for white anyway. Grey for base, then off white like ulthuan grey as main colour and pure white as highlight for example.

Spray primer for T'au Vior'la Sept

I would think red would be worse on white. Brighter the pigments the worse their coverage which means the colors on the bottom will bleed through a bit. Which is fine when it's bright orange or yellow. A pale yellow is yellow.

But when you mix white with red it's pink....

Pink.

It takes a lot of coats to kill the pinking in red paint when you paint it over white. Start with the grey or black.

Grey seems best to me.
A good grey will kind of self shade the white areas while not being such a hindrance to the reds. But you also won't be fighting the black with your whites.

Spray primer for T'au Vior'la Sept

Personally as i plan on doing white and blue my self i would start off with

Corax white spray

Touch up anything missed with white with a ting of grey to try and match it

zenith highlight with normal white spray or airbrush

black out garments and areas that will be colored

for red id go off the black to hull red which is a fantastic brown red from valliejo then up to whatever red fancies you.

Spray primer for T'au Vior'la Sept

Went to my local Games Workshop-store and the staff member recommended Corax White. Tried it on my first T'au model ever, and it seems ok. I'm not used to having to touch up on the primer though, the spray kind of floated out rather than covering everything it went on. Could it be that it were -9 degrees outside, or is this what I'll have to expect from white spray? I'm more used to black and Zandri Dust.

Re:Spray primer for T'au Vior'la Sept

You can spray them now outside, but you need to return inside immediately, let the paint dry and warm up again. Do multiple really thin layers, until the miniature is all white. Rattlecan paint is very thin, its ok if you need something like 5 layers until you are finished.
